Hair-Rituel-By-Sisley-luxury
It has been more than 40 years now that Sisley Paris entered the world of skincare and delivered what nature has at its best into amazing products and formulas. 2018 is a new important milestone. It is the year that Sisley Research is now extending its know-how to hair care, launching its new brand in 2018:
Hair-Rituel-by-Sisley-logo
If you think about it, we have rituals for the face, for the skin, for make-up even. But what about the hair? In deed, we are missing a regular routine to help you have beautiful and gorgeous hair. Obviously in today’s world each minute counts, so Sisley has developed a short, yet very efficient and complete Hair Ritual that should blow your mind by its formulas. There are mainly six products to help you with your day-to-day beauty. One important question we had is why Sisley’s expertise in skincare is valuable for hair care? According to the brand, there are two main raisons for this. The first one is about the cells composition and functioning. Skin cells and hair cells have a lot in common. Even when we compare with the scalp cells, there are a lot of similarities. Obviously also some differences which makes the challenge interesting for such a tremendous skin background. Another interesting point is about the causes that brings “bad hair”. They are pretty much the same as for the skin. Stress, fatigue, pollution and normal genetic ageing are strong factors that can diminish the beauty of your hair.

As always with Sisley, the hair approach is global. For all skins and for both women and men. Each of the six HAIR RITUEL products is formulated with a powerful concentration of botanical extracts and essential oils, minerals, vitamins, and proteins. These ingredients energise the hair bulb and restructure the hair fibre.

Hair Rituel By Sisley: The Range

Hair-Rituel-by-Sisley-the-range
In this solid range of products, there are several elements that contributes to the active properties of each product. The first one is what Sisley calls the “Vitalizing-Fortifying complex”. Made of Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Pro-vitamin B5 and Vitamin E derivative, this complex is associated with Arginine, one of the twenty main natural amino acids that make up proteins and especially keratin. This association helps to promote hair vitality.
The second element is Rice proteins and Vitamin Peptide. This new association should support the densification of the hair fibre. The peptide is a derived from a special combination of three amino acids with Vitamin H. It is quite well known for its action in treating hair loss.
The third interesting element to highlight is an extract of Linseed and Einkorn wheat. This duo should protect your hair’s natural color.
Last but not least, there is also an extraction of Sage. This plant is a gift from gods. Already in the middle-age, it was a very popular plant, present in many gardens. Queens and Princesses would wash their hair with Sage infusions. It would help them keep their hair and scalp healthy.

The complementarity of these active ingredients has a profound effect on restarting the cellular mechanisms of the hair bulb. Day after day, the hair becomes stronger and denser; it is radiant with vitality, as if regenerated.” – Sisley Paris

Hair-Rituel-by-Sisley-range-products
The Hair Rituel by Sisley range, as explained, is built around six important products that should cover the essential care for your hair and scalp. They all work as complementary actions, and of course you can also adapt the program by defining duos, trios and a specific ritual depending on your needs.

  • Revitalizing Voluminizing Shampoo with Camellia Oil – 200ML
  • Revitalizing Smoothing Shampoo with Macadamia Oil – 200ML
  • Restructuring Conditioner with Cotton Proteins – 200ML
  • Regenerating Hair Care Mask with Four botanical Oils – 200ML
  • Revitalizing Fortifying Serum for the Scalp – 60ML
  • Precious Hair Care Oil Glossiness and Nutrition – 100ML

I was lucky enough to being able to try two of the six products. the first one is the Revitalizing Smoothing Shampoo with Macadamia Oil. Sisley will always add a “caring” aspect on all its products. So the purpose of the Shampoo is not only wash your hair but also take care of your scalp and hair health. The first thing to notice is the texture. When pouring some into the palm of the hand, we can see a nice pearly colored texture, somewhere between the shampoo and the conditionner. The second interesting characteristic of this formula is the scent. Very modern and miles away from the traditional fruity, sparkling smells. The fragrance brings a clean, caring and soft scent to the experience, much more contemporary than most of shampoos. Then, the most important: the hair wash. In the first seconds I must confess to be quite positively surprised by the quantity of foam that the Sisley shampoo provides. Very generous. Then while washing the hair we can already feel an effect on the hair that looks more soften and fluid. The experience is pretty good and gentle. In terms of active ingredients, these are the following:

  • Pro-vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E Acetate
  • Zinc, Copper, Arginine, natural origin Alpha-Bisabolol,
  • Ceramides-like active ingredient
  • Cotton proteins, Shea oil, Macadamia oil, Moringa oil.

Once the hair is dried, we can see that all the product was well washed away. No residues. The hair is soften and gain a good elasticity. No matter if you have short hair or long one, you will definitely enjoy the after result. The hair gain brightness and seem healthy.

As the shampoo is the keystone of any hair range, we thought interesting analyzing the INCI formula. Generally with Sisley is always a tremendous adventure doing that as we always discover best in class formulation approach. We can see there are a lot of natural ingredients and soft ingredients yet efficient blend with haircare best performers.

  1. WATER/EAU (AQUA) – this is purified water.
  2. SODIUM LAUROYL SARCOSINATE – is derived from sarcosine, a natural amino acid found in the human body and just about every type of biological material from animals to plants. Honest’s sarcosine is made from coconut oil.
  3. COCO-GLUCOSIDE – is a natural, non-ionic, surfactant. One of the most gentle of the cleansing agents, making it ideal for all foaming and cleansing products, especially those designed for fragile or sensitive skin.
  4. COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE – is derived from Coconut and helps to create foam.
  5. PEG-120 METHYL GLUCOSE TRIOLEATE – It is a diester of natural Methylglucose and Oleic Acid. It is used in beauty products and cosmetics as a surfactant and emulsifier. It is used as a thickener in hair and skin care products.
  6. GLYCERIN – is a humectant, designed to bring moisture in and retain it. In hair products, glycerin works to draw moisture onto your hair and provides a barrier to keep the moisture locked in.
  7. SODIUM COCOYL GLUTAMATE – is a mild vegetable-based surfactant (foaming ingredient) derived from from coconut or palm kernel oil and glucose from corn. It is recognized as a natural ingredient by the Natural Product Association and certified by Ecocert, the first certification body to develop standards for natural and organic.
  8. PANTHENOL – a very popular ingredient for shampoos. It is celebrated for moisturizing, thickening and boosting hair’s body quotient.
  9. PENTYLENE GLYCOL – is commonly used as a skin conditioning agent, due to its ability to help the skin attract and retain moisture. As such, it falls into a category of skin care ingredients called humectants. Other ingredients in this group also include honey or aloe vera. Additionally, it also has some anti microbial properties, which can make it a valuable addition to the formula.
  10. FRAGRANCE (PARFUM) – The scent of the formula, including the last 2 ingredients in the INCI formula.
  11. ARGININE – This amino acid, which is produced by our body too, helps relaxing the blood vessels and improves the flow of blood to the scalp and the base of hair, fighting hair loss.
  12. BISABOLOL – The primary component of the essential oil extracted from chamomile. It can effectively stimulate and promote the skin’s healing process and encourage healthy hair growth.
  13. MACADAMIA INTEGRIFOLIA SEED OIL – Oil from edible macadamia nuts. It functions as a skin conditioning and emollient agent.
  14. MORINGA OLEIFERA SEED OIL – comes from the seeds of Moringa Oleifera Tree. This fresh smelling oil has been known as a natural hair cleanser for ages. It moisturizes the scalp, fights the aging mechanism and help you gain stronger hair. It strengthens your hair by delivering important minerals and vitamins to the hair follicles.
  15. PYRIDOXINE HCL – is a form of vitamin B6 that helps keep your hair strong.
  16. BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER – This is the well known Shea Butter. It helps moisture and fights aging.
  17. TOCOPHERYL ACETATE – also known as Vitamin E acetate. It can penetrate through the skin to the living cells, where about 5% is converted to free tocopherol and provides beneficial antioxidant effects
  18. MAGNESIUM ASPARTATE – is believed to be a mineral transporter to metabolizing cells, aiding in the metabolic process by replenishing vital electrolytes thereby contributing to efficient energy production.
  19. ZINC GLUCONATE – is a Zinc compound often added to dandruff shampoos to help reduce shedding
  20. HYDROLIZED COTTONSEED PROTEIN – it is a hair conditioning-agent derived from the Cotton
  21. PALMITOYL MYRISTYL SERINATE – it is also a hair conditioning-agent
  22. COPPER GLUCONATE – Also known simply as copper, this mineral is an important trace element for human nutrition. The body needs copper to absorb and use iron, and copper is also a component of the powerful antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. Copper gluconate is a potentially exciting anti-aging ingredient.
  23. BIOTIN – is a water-soluble B-vitamin, also called vitamin B7 and formerly known as vitamin H. This ingredient is known to fight hair loss and maintain your hair strong and healthy.
  24. PEG-18 GLYCERYL OLEATE/COCOATE – This is generally used as a stabilizer and a thickener. Often we considered it as well as a Skin-Conditioning Agent because of its emollient, surfactant and emulsifying agent role.
  25. CITRIC ACID – It has two main roles. The first is to adjust the pH of the shampoo so it matches well with the hair. If the shampoo is to acidic for example, the scales of the hair will lay flat and the result will be poor. It also has a preservation action, preventing any bacterial development.
  26. SODIUM CHLORIDE – it is used as a thickener in low quantities, that is why it ends up so low in the list.
  27. POLYQUATERNIUM-22 – it is a film forming and great hair fixative. It can help delivering the formula to the hair, therefore an interesting ingredient for a shampoo.
  28. PEG-8 – Sulfactant and emulsifying agent, helping in the balance of the formula
  29. PROPANEDIOL – derived from Corn, it is also called propylene glycol. It is a preservative quite well known in the skincare industry.
  30. STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER – it is a film former for improved hair surface luster.
  31. POLYQUATERNIUM-47 – it is a film former and facilitates moisture to the hair.
  32. DISODIUM EDTA – it helps preserving the product once it is open. It enhances foaming which is an interesting aspect for shampoos.
  33. PEG-8/SMDI COPOLYMER – it has skin emollient and conditioning activities.
  34. TRETASODIUM EDTA – is a chelating agent, used to sequester and decrease the reactivity of metal ions that may be present in a product so it will not be deposit in the hair.
  35. TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE – it is used as a cleaning agent, lubricant and degreaser. It is an interesting ingredient to have in low quantities as it helps the balance of a shampoo formula.
  36. SODIUM POLYACRYLATE – it is a formula thickener and has the ability to absorbe around 200 times its weight in water.
  37. SODIUM HYDROXIDE – it is present in shampoo formulas in order to balance the formula pH.
  38. PHENOXETHANOL – it is the new star in cosmetics and skincare in general. It is a great alternative to Parabens as a preservative.
  39. SODIUM BENZOATE – found naturally in cranberries, prunes, plums, cinnamon or in apples, it is used as a preservative in cosmetics.
  40. BENZOIC ACID – it is also a preservative and helps the incorporation of fragrance into a beauty product.
  41. POTASSIUM SORBATE – this is also a preservative, protecting the formula, especially once the product is opened.
  42. LIMONENE is listed in the INCI formula as a potential allergen to some people. It is generally present in the fragrance formula that is added to the shampoo. Legislations requires the labelling of this ingredient in order to help people sensitive to it to be aware. This same legislation orders a certain limit in terms of used quantity.
  43. CITRAL – Same as Limonene.

In conclusion to the analysis of the INCI formula, we can see a well structured shampoo. What I keep from this formula is the gentle cleaning ingredients, the usage of coconut derivatives, shear butter and macadamia oil that represent a great team to help taking care of your hair. There is also a good intention in providing a pleasant experience under the shower and find a good balance between foam and texture. A few elements are also there to help balance the formula and have a very professional feeling and result. So it shows that Sisley took seriously the business of haircare and came with a good product.

The second product tested was the Revitalizing Fortifying Serum. This powerful product is designed to be applied to dry or damp hair, part by part (three dropperfuls on the scalp), then massaged with the fingertips, particularly in areas where hair is falling out. This truly intensive course of treatment is to be used every other day for one month, then twice weekly for two months for maintenance. I tried on dry-hair. After placing 3 dropperfuls, I massaged my scalp for several minutes and then waited a little while. Personally I felt to wash it away as I am not experienced to leave such a product in my scalp.  In terms of main ingredients, we have:

  • Pro-vitamin B5, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin E Acetate
  • Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Arginine, natural origin Alpha-Bisabolol
  • Rice proteins, Einkorn wheat extract and Lin

The formula is quite strong, so I would not advice to use it every day. I would more use it once in a while as a treatment.  revitalizing-serum-hair-sisley
