Smart devices are being largely adopted by people which are making retro “non-smart” houses smart. Last year Apple released the Home Pod speaker in the competition to smart devices like Google home and Amazon Echo.

It’s not a coincidence that digital assistants like Siri, Alexa, Cortana and Erica (Bank of America’s assistants) are taking care of their users offering administrative support. We see that all these smart devices are furnished with a virtual assistant, AI which has given users the ease to use their devices hands-free on a daily basis.

According to one survey, 72% people own a Digital assistant (voice) and consider it as a part of their daily routine. Some of their daily routine tasks with digital assistants involve – checking commute time, setting reminders for things to buy later and many more.

How AI is involved with Luxury

Experience is the key, in the world of luxury. Every shopper, whether buying a Burberry or Mercedes would want to feel gratified when entering the store. Thus, luxury brands are starting to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their business to bring out more personalized experience for the shopper.

Burberry, a renowned luxury brand recognized the importance of AI long back. The company follow a mechanism where they ask their customers to share data through a loyalty and reward programs. Through this mechanism, the company builds a brand history of the customer and when a customer visits the store, assistants are able to make recommendations based on the data they have stored with them. With Burberry’s AI, assistants are able to recommend the appropriate choices quickly that gives customer a pleasing experience. In 2015, the company was reported to have 50% increase in repeated customer following this mechanism.

AI powered Chatbot programs are being used by luxury brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Levi’s and Dior and is expected to increase by 80% by 2020 which will interact with customers without human assistance.

Apart from performing your daily tasks like playing music, helping with shopping list creation and announcement of weather, AI is an ever evolving technology. What if these digital assistants learn more about you, hold a conversation and interact with you on an entirely new level?

Google-Assistant

Well, Google assistants is getting smarter each day trying to adapt your needs and goals, act as an external brain in your life to fulfill tasks. Google Duplex is made smart in a way that when it communicates it sound like a human talking to another human. It can simply book an appointment for you at a salon without giving a hint of a bot talking. We expect to see some more of these amazing things that an AI can do.

AI will allow you more valuable time

Implementing AI in your lives might free you to enjoy more time with your family, follow your passion and enjoy a little more than ever. We know time is money, thus AI is built to take care of your services to have more time available in your schedules every day to work on new strategies and methods. Moreover, AI can operate complex systems to make them simple for our everyday activities.

An example that simply set timers hands-free. An Alexa Paired Echo Clock which helps you stay organized. You can sync this clock with other smart devices, it automatically makes adjustments with the current time and daylight saving time. This clock shows the alarms or timers set on any of your devices or you can easily set time by just saying “Alexa, set a 12-minute timer”.

AI with Deep learning used in other sectors

Apart from these devices, AI is being used in retails as well. Many luxury brand use Deep Learning, an aspect of the AI, where the machine learns and becomes progressive from the data input. One of the greatest example of deep learning algorithm is LUXSENS. A Shanghai based luxury brand of bags uses DL to offer the best price of bags to its customers. LUXSENS is appealing to the price-savvy customers who want to purchase luxury items at a lower price. With Big Data involved, this brand allows customer to learn about the price fluctuations on different locations so that they can get their preferred brand at a reasonable price.

Fashion brands that too favor AI are Stich-Fix and Thread. These luxury brands use big data algorithms that works when the customer feeds the information through a set of questions asked in a survey. This algorithm helps the brand to decide the best look for their client within their budget, size and style that they are looking for. This mechanism has helped these brands build identity and loyal customers.

You encounter AI every day without recognizing – when surfing internet for a book on Amazon or TV show on Netflix, these apps or websites drop a list of recommendations to read or watch. How does this work? This Deep Learning algorithm recommends you from your early purchases or watched movies or TV shows on the similar platform.

Moreover, AI filters your incoming emails and sways away spam mails from your inbox based on the content of the email.

Those who do not know the true potential of this technology will encounter soon in the coming years. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to offer $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030.

Artificial Intelligence and autonomous luxury cars

With practice and experience Artificial Intelligence have successfully learned to drive. Exactly! After the launch of the autonomous car like Tesla, Waymo by Google, announced a 100% autonomous car prototype without any steering wheel, gas pedal or brake pedal.

Similarly, Audi made its first production of autonomous car with a Level 3 autonomy features (Vehicles that can drive themselves in certain situations and need human assistance when limits exceed) which works at a speed of 37 mph, in divided highways with clearly marked entrance and exit lanes.

Tesla-cars

In future, we will see Ford come up with a Level 4 vehicle (vehicles that can drive most of the time themselves and require human assistance at certain situations) by the year 2021. A luxury car manufacturing brand Volvo is expected to launch its fully autonomous car the same year. The car reportedly will have no gas pedal, no steering wheel.

Similarly, BMW too will launch a Level 3 autonomous vehicle by the year 2021 and is also expected to deliver Level 4 & Level 5 (Fully autonomous that need no manual assistance or control under any circumstances) capacity cars.

More Increased Autonomy for elderly people

AI is ramifying in diverse sectors to improve our lifestyle. Its efficiency has reached to help elderly and disabled people as well. Scholars are continuously learning and improving the smart devices to make spaces and activities accessible & convenient to the people with all abilities.

domotique

Building smart homes equipped with smart devices (integrated with AI and Big Data) can automate crucial activities such as opening or closing the door or contacting medical professionals which can be difficult for the elderly people or people having special needs. One of the example of smart homes is built in Boulder, Colorado as Imagine! Smart Homes, especially designed for people with cognitive disabilities. When surveyed, elderly people feel more comfortable and independent in this natural setting. Technology is benefiting as well as providing luxury by making things autonomous to these people.

Conclusion

Experts are continuously working on technology like AI, Big Data, Machine Learning & Internet of Things and will continue to revolutionize the world that we live in to make it more convenient. We have already understood that AI has the potential to turn your lives from comfortable to luxury. It can also make complex systems appear easy to you through its intelligent algorithms. Experts are giving AI a human touch and feelings to create bond between machines and humans and to interact seamlessly in their daily life. Yet, security is always a major concern. With technologies like object recognition and facial recognition getting better every day, it won’t be long when all security devices will be incorporated with AI. The smarter the AI become the more secure our resources and better decisions will be made in future.
