With its dazzling display of over 630 boats, the latest electronic gadgets, decadent deck fittings and fun new toys, the 2016 Cannes Yachting Festival, which has now drawn to a close for the 39th time, more than cemented the event’s reputation as one of the leading yacht shows in the world. The record-breaking edition was the best to date, with industry professionals converging in Cannes to experience the most innovative advances in the yachting industry. Giving its film festival counterpart a run for its money, this year saw the premier of 191 new models, with visitors from the world over gathering to witness the largest European in-water show (now officially so thanks to a record-breaking number of attending boats). A highly important date in the Mediterranean yachting calendar, guests were treated to a showcase of luxury from the quality of the yachts to the overall atmosphere – the latter of which was enhanced by festival partnerships with leading premium brands, such as Porsche and Louis Roederer Champagne.

Highlights of this year’s edition included the Concours d’Elegance, a unique parade of vintage and modern-day boats that beautifully depicted the rich history of boating on the French Riviera. The Festival’s VIP programme, Carte Riviera, was also back once again by popular demand. As was the case in 2015, Carte Riviera holders lapped up the exclusive services on offer, from personal tours of the most beautiful vessels on show, to a direct helicopter transfer to the Vieux Port heliport, not to mention a high-class concierge service. Among the yachts to make their world debut was the 370 GT from Invictus Yachts. The 370 GT spans 11.40m in length and has a top speed of 43 knots. The yacht’s reverse bow gives it a distinctive, avant-garde look, while the retractable beach club enables easy access to the water. The 12.8m yacht can cruise at a staggering top speed of 64 knots.

Also making a splash at the Cannes Yacht Show 2016, the Say42 is made from carbon fibre, giving it an extremely lightweight body. Up to 1,000hp is produced by multiple engine options and the sporty vessel can carry up to ten passengers. The sleek, minimalist design is best appreciated in the beach club, which enhances the sailing experience. With a hull of just 0.85m, seafarers can travel anywhere in style in the Say42. But the appearance of SmartYacht at the Cannes Yachting Festival proved that the yachting life doesn’t have to be reserved for the international jet set. The company offers shared yacht ownership as a cost-effective alternative to sole ownership, enabling buyers to purchase and maintain a vessel with other investors.

Renowned worldwide as the boat show for multihulls, this year didn’t disappoint. Added space, and a dedicated dock at the centre of the show, allowed 2016 to welcome 45 catamarans – the largest amount in the world – with sizes on show ranging from 42 to 77 feet. The show is also celebrated for its exhibition of sailing yachts – 120 this year, 20% the total of all vessels. Aside from boats, the Cannes Yachting Festival also exhibits the best watertoys and yachting accessories, with top of the range jet skis, stand up paddleboards and even sleds that dive underwater.

concours-d-elegance-cannes-yachting-festivalJust in case all this wasn’t enough, this year saw the Cannes Yachting Festival launch an entirely new area completely devoted to luxury: La Terrasse. Located alongside the Festival Beach, this exciting new element offered a 180-degree view of the biggest yachts on display at Vieux Port, the Bay of Cannes, the Croisette and the Lérins Islands. Everything luxury was on display, from watches to jewellery and cars.

Get a Higher Level Degree

The right education can make a world of difference in your ability to earn a high income that will create and support your luxury lifestyle. If you are not the type of person who would like a job in the medical field or in the legal field, as a couple of examples, why not enter the exciting world of business instead? After all, business offers you a wide array of lucrative job opportunities, so there really is something for everyone. Creative individuals can become successful PR agents and marketing managers, while those who are more analytical may do extremely well as an administrator, as a few examples. No matter what you decide to do, though, get a higher-level degree, such as a masters in business administration online from a great business school like Villanova University. After all, an online MBA program will allow you to go to school from home, and that gives you more flexibility to work and earn while you study.

Invest Your Money Wisely

In addition to getting a high paying job with great benefits, you also need to be smart with the money that you make. So rather than spending all of it, invest in the future so that you can one day have a more luxurious lifestyle. For example, you can put your money into interest-earning savings accounts and certificates of deposit, and you can also invest your money in the stock market if you know how to take the right risks to make the biggest returns.

Live Where You Can Stretch Your Money

Opt to live in a less expensive area, where you will get a lot more for every dollar you spend. This entails doing your research into beautiful places to live where you will be able to more easily afford the real estate that you want, as well as your other living expenses. Areas with a lower cost of living could offer you everything that more expensive areas offer, but at a much more affordable rate. And if you are self-employed and you make a lot of money, you can really establish a luxurious lifestyle in those areas, as you will be able to stretch your money and buy only the best.

luxury-real-estate

By following the tips and advice above, you can plan today for a better tomorrow. You will be able to afford that luxury self-driving vehicle you’ve always wanted, you will be able to invest in a gorgeous piece of real estate, and you will be able to travel the world in comfort. Your luxury lifestyle awaits you, but you have to work towards it first.

Dahlia

luxury-dahlia

When talking about the most beautiful flower how can Dahlia be missed? There is a long telltale behind this pretty flower. In the year 1751, Anders Dahl who was Carl Linnaeus had died at the mere age of 38. This urged Carl to something for his beloved student. So, he thought to name this amazing Mexican flower after his student as an honor. Thus, earlier the flower which was called “Asteraceae” was changed to “Dahlia”. These flowers are basically large in diameter as they range from 12-inch-30cm to surprisingly 6ich-8ft. They are found in large number of shades but the blue colored Dahlia looks very elegant. In 1963 this flower was declared as Mexico’s national flower officially.

Jade Vine

jade-vine-rare-flowers

This flower is scientifically known as Strongylodon Macrobotrys and is basically found in the Philippines. This flower is not only one of the most beautiful flowers in the world but it is also one of the rarest flowers. It caters both a delicate and fascinating characteristic. The flower is covered with claw-shaped petals which provide it an exclusive look. These claw-shaped outcropping sprouts from hanging truss and can grow up to 3-meters in length. The flower comes in various colors between mint green and blue-green.

Cherry Blossom

luxury-cherry-blossom

This flower is one of the best beauties in the world. They are majorly found in Japan and they have very spectacular blossoms around. They basically arrive during the spring season and come in white and light pink color. They look amazing on trees rather than in a vase. Japan looks amazing in the spring season as these flowers bloom out in huge numbers on the trees.

Flowers are the most beautiful things on Earth and having them in your decoration can effectively enhance the beauty of the venue. But it is a must that you choose them wisely by going for the ones which perfectly suit the venue.

7 Ways to Make Your Home Feel More Spacious

0
Reading Time: 4 minutes

Have you ever been in a small room that looks and feels more open than a room twice its size? If you’ve experienced this phenomena, you’re aware of just how pivotal something as simple as the arrangement of furniture can be when trying to make the most out of a given space. Whether your dining room is too cramped or you’re looking for a way to free up walking space in the hallways and bedrooms, the general consensus seems to be that more space is better. With that said, let’s take a look at seven ways you can make your home feel more spacious today:

luxury-magazine-nterior

1. Arrange Furniture Around a Center Piece

Feng shui experts frequently recommend centering furniture around an object like a coffee table or ottoman. The less spacious alternative to this would be to arrange seats around multiple objects, like two different tables, or having the couches set apart on separate walls.

2. Remove a Wall or Two

Sometimes tearing down the wall that separates two rooms can be a perfect way to create a smooth flowing open layout. For example, consider the spacial benefits of removing the wall that separates the kitchen and dining room or living room and dining room. With the space opened up, you can use rugs and furniture to create less restrictive boundaries than the previously standing wall(s). Of course, it would be wise to consult with a demolition expert before proceeding with a project like this, as it could be quite costly depending on what your walls are made of.

3. Downsize Your Furniture

Most people have an excessive amount of seating in their living room. Even though they only accommodate more than a few guests a few times a year, they still have enough couches, chairs, and seats to host a party on any night of the week. Consider downsizing to love seats, recliners, bean bags, and other smaller furniture pieces.

4. Make Things Easily Accessible

It’s always important to consider the spaces between objects and how they affect ease of mobility within the room.  Although there might be an entire foot of space between the back of a couch and book shelf, you have to ask yourself whether it is going to be comfortable or convenient for people to have to squeeze through a layout like that.

5. Incorporate Built-in Components

Built-in book shelves, benches, slide-out tables, bars, armoires and other integrated components can do a lot to replace unnecessary furniture pieces. You might even want to consider having a fireplace installed instead of your current central heating system. Check out these top electric fireplaces for some ideas.

6. Make Use of the Corners and Crannies

Corners and crannies under the stairs make ideal spots for small tables, cabinets, night stands, coat hangers and other minimal pieces that can accent and add functionality to the room without taking up too much space. Look for ways to move your smaller furniture out of the center of the room and into the corners and go from there.

7. Hang Televisions and Mirrors

TV stands and dressers can take up a lot of space along a wall. Why not free that up by hanging or mounting the screen instead? Mounting a mirror on the wall is also a great way to trick your spacial senses into perceiving that the room is more spacious than it actually is.

Learn the KonMari Method

In closing, look for ways to de-clutter and reorganize your lifestyle using some of the tips provided in the KonMari method. This is a helpful school of thought worth suggesting to.

Art in Switzerland: the most expected art exhibitions to come.

0
Reading Time: 6 minutes

Switzerland has an amazing network of cultural places and museums. It is probably one of the most rich countries in terms of art diversity. You can see exhibitions in Switzerland that probably you might not be able to see them elsewhere. Why is that? Probably the perfect blend between financial means (making things happening), culture expertise (to know what to do) and a strong aim to maintain a strong cultural activity. Here is our Swiss Blog post of the month about the most expected art exhibitions in Switzerland for this new season.

Kunsthaus Zürich in 2016: Alberto Giacometti, Beyond bronze.

giacometti-plasters

From 28 October 2016 – 15 January 2017.

Fifty years on from the death of Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966), the major temporary exhibition ‘Alberto Giacometti – Beyond Bronze. Masterworks in Plaster and Other Materials’ illuminates the fundamental aspects of this world-famous Swiss artist’s oeuvre and technique. It is a different Giacometti that you will meet. With the support of Credit Suisse, a strong cultural partner of the Zürich Museum, you will be able to discover 75 original plasters, gathered by the museum in 2006. It was a gift by Bruno and Odette Giacometti to the Alberto Giacometti Foundation. It might sound insignificant, but plaster was actually a very important material for Giacometti. Some people could see it as a intermediary stage before the precious material. Actually, Giacometti had a completely different vision. For him, it was the important moment in his creation process in which he could paint or rework his objects in a wide variety of ways. The exhibition complements the holdings of the Kunsthaus with important loans from other collections, notably the non-public Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti in Paris, which are being shown for the first time on this scale in Switzerland.

Kuns Museum Bern: Ted Scapa, Just a Sideline

ted-scapa

From 18 November 2016 – 19 February 2017.

Ted Scapa, by birth Edouard Schaap, was born in 1931 in Amsterdam. After completing his art studies at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, he married Meret Meyer in 1962, the daughter of the publisher Hans Meyer-Benteli, and moved to Switzerland. Here he was director of the Benteli publishing house and became famous for his children’s program Das Spielhaus (The playhouse) on Swiss television. His cartoon and children’s books as well, as the caricatures he executed for domestic and international newspapers, such as the Nebelspalter or Weltwoche, brought his comic visual language widespread popularity and bore his unmistakable signature. In this exhibition you will see a lot of his signature work. The main focus is on the paintings, sculptures, and design objects produced by the artist from 1992 onwards. Closely interlinked with his other occupations, he created a fine-art oeuvre that is characterized by wit and spontaneity, by vitality and playfulness.

miro-picasso

Musée de l’Elysée: Vertical no limits. Mountains’ photography

jacques-pugin-mountains

25 January 2017 to 30 April 2017

The exhibition Vertical no limits. Mountains’ photography, the first of its kind, is inspired by the claim that photography invented the mountain landscape by revealing it to the eyes of the world. Inheriting a certain idea of mountains and the sublime, it was inextricably entwined with pictorial Romanticism. Until the 19th century, mountains were considered “the land of God”, a cursed and dreamlike place. The pioneers of mountain photography revealed summits that had not yet been conquered. With almost 300 prints on show, three quarters of which are from the Musée de l’Elysée’s collections, the exhibition gives pride of place to prints from every period, including many contemporary works.

Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Genève: Wade Guyton

wade-guyton

12 October 2016 to 29 January 2017

Wade Guyton (born 1972) is a post-conceptual American artist who among other things makes digital paintings on canvas using scanners and digital inkjet technology. As of 2013, Guyton’s works regularly sell for more than $1 million at auction and privately. An untitled Epson UltraChrome inkjet on linen of 2005 established an auction record for the artist when it sold for $2.4 million at Christie’s New York in 2013. In 2014, his flame painting Untitled (Fire, Red/Black U) (2005) sold to an unidentified telephone bidder for $3.525 million at Christie’s, New York. Days before the auction the artist disgusted by the enormous price expected went on the offensive printing multiple copies of the painting and posted them on Instagram a few days before the auction. The painting was rumored to be guaranteed at $4 million

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The great thing about collaborations is that 1+1= 3. This means that when the partnership is good, the end result is more than simply an addition of efforts. This is the case with the amazing partnership between Hautlence and Colette. In one side we have a beautiful watch-making statement. In the other hand, Colette is the temple of trends and naturally all it-products are there. So the combination between these two brands bring something even more outstanding. It is not only about the product, it is a state of mind, a manifesto against the down-sides of modern society. Please welcome the new Hautlence Playground Labyrinth Limited Edition by Colette. Now it is definitely the time to disconnect.

The Playground Labyrinth, daring is the only way

Sometimes we feel that everything was already invented. All watch complications were created and basically the game is done. Until you realize that there is always room for improvement and for outstanding projects. This is the case with Hautlence and its already iconic Playground Labyrinth. Hautlence is stopping the insane march of the seconds, and encouraging you to “disconnect”. Taking time to play the Labyrinth — a collection which celebrates a return to innocence — provides the simple and immediate pleasure of letting go. Hautlence lets the wearer hark back to a less regimented time in which life can be lived and enjoyed. Much more than an object, the Labyrinth is a new way of envisaging time: it allows time to be halted, providing an escape from its unstoppable march through the joy of play, a simple pleasure with highly symbolic significance.

The interest of this concept is on the way it is done. In order to achieve a watch that is not a watch, you need to be one of the best watchmakers. Despite the fact that this watch does not give time, the mechanism is quite sophisticated as from the winding crown you can control the ball release. All different elements that builds a perfect timepiece were put together so the Playground Labyrinth is a high-standard creation.

Playground Labyrinth Limited Edition by Colette

From 7th September, the Playground Labyrinth Limited Edition by colette will be available from the concept store. For some buyers, this will provide an opportunity to purchase their dream piece: fun, pointless, yet completely indispensable! For others, the chance to discover this exceptionally beautiful creation, equipped with a mechanical lift used to return the ball to the plate using a system of cams, visible through the transparent case back. And everyone will get the opportunity to attempt to rise to the challenge and beat the current holder of the record time taken to move the ball into the right hole, in both directions: Mrs Rêve Dagher (16.32 seconds/12 seconds).

Reading Time: 5 minutes

luxury-family-holidays

When you are used to live a stylish life, you enjoy the best places, the best services and experiences. When you travel, you want to have the very best because generally you deserve it. Then one day you decide to have children and your life starts changing. Here are some good tips to allow you to keep your luxury lifestyle, now with children. This will be a regular theme on Luxury Activist as many readers are asking for tips.

With Children, you realize many things. It gives you another perspective. When it comes to travel and holidays, you realize that you cannot do as you used to do before:

  • No preparation
  • Last minute offers
  • Easy organization during travel

One thing very important as well is the choice of hotels. While you and your companion would always choose the very best luxury hotels, confidential addresses and quite intimate atmosphere, this was possible before having children. What happen when you get children? Well the beautiful cute luxury hotel you loved so much becomes a nightmare when you have children. Remember that beautiful and stylish hotel in France? That amazing restaurant and its tables for two? Definitely not with children.  So at one point, you say to yourself that it should be possible to find good luxury family holidays without much difficulty.  After searching for a little while you realize it is not so obvious, the most of the places you used to go are not necessary “child-friendly”. No worries, I have been there! So here are some useful tips that might help you get that stylish feeling back to your life.

Get a nice car and travel more by road

When a child arrives in a family, it is a great joy, something unique that is hard to explain. Then you have the first summer you spend being a new dad or a mom. You wish to take some holidays. You realize you need to take quite a lot of things for the baby and it is much less comfortable than you think. Generally you take:

  • Baby Buggy
  • Dippers
  • Baby Food
  • Different pieces of clothes
  • Medecine
  • Etc

Things get quite busy. Our advice is to privilege traveling by car. You place all your belongings in the trunk and up you go. You have lot of room to place everything you need. You can also rent or buy a roof trunk that can extend your trunk capacity. This will help you leave home with your children without being a complete mess. So if you wish to retrieve your luxury life before your children were born, you can buy a very elegant and luxury car that will be used for your luxury family holidays. The nice car will place you in a stylish context, so you still have the feeling you keep up with the elegant life you used to have. Choose well. One important point in parallel of car security: the volume of the trunk. To make your life easier, your trunk should be a minimum of 500L This will allow you to place the baby buggy and still some luggage. Here are 3 examples of nice cars that will be well adapted for a family life.

Forget Luxury hotels, privilege Luxury Guest Houses

With children, it is not always obvious to stay in a luxury hotel. Some hotels will even tell you to not come with kids. One interesting advice is about Luxury Guest Houses. In the past 10 years, the concept of small luxury hotels or Guest Houses have developed a lot. In every country now, you can find people with very good taste that will propose few bedrooms. This type of housing is perfect for families with children. Generally these luxury guest houses have amazing gardens, so you can easily play with your children. It is a much more relaxed ambiance, so you will not feel annoyed if your child start crying.

The event takes place from 6th to 11th September 2016. The majority of yachts will be available for sea trials for potential buyers, giving enthusiastic visitors a chance to take the helm of a luxurious yacht before deciding whether to buy it. Cannes’ location in the heart of the Mediterranean, along with its timeless appeal, makes it a wonderful place to view the finest vessels on the market, compare the competition and plan a yacht charter in France.
