Your good health is one luxury that money can’t buy; it’s priceless and should never be taken for granted. Our bodies are an exquisite collection of cells that combine and give us the miracle of life; however, the wear and tear, stresses and strains of everyday life can cause imbalances to occur and to prevent long-term damage it is important that you learn to recognize the signs that your body is giving you that all is not well. Here are 3 tips for looking after your health.

1. Be Aware of Your Energy Levels

If you find that after you have had a good eight hours sleep or more and still struggling to rise in the morning, you need to assess why this is happening. Review your diet and how you are fueling yourself. Processed foods and those with a high level of sugar in are often the main culprits for fatigue, and so switching to a balanced diet and drinking plenty of water can provide a solution. You may feel fatigued by stress. It is important that you identify the source and seek a remedy – reduce your hours, change your job, take a vacation and learn to relax. Mediation is a great way to train your mind to switch off for rejuvenation.
There may be health reasons for low energy, and if you suspect that this may be the case, you should seek medical advice, especially if other symptoms accompany feelings of fatigue. For example, if you have heavy and painful periods, you may have endometriosis, in which case seek advice from a specialist such as Dr Seckin, who will be able to advise you on treatments that are available to you.

2. Examine Your Urine

Your urine is an important indicator of your health. Healthy urine is a pale-yellow color, and if yours is dark, it is a sign that you are dehydrated and need to drink more fluids to help your body flush out toxins. Kidney and liver health can be demonstrated by the color of your urine, so if you notice a red or orange color that doesn’t resolve in a couple of days, seek medical advice. Occasionally, the food that we eat can influence the color of urine – beetroots cause red urine and asparagus can taint urine a startling green, so if you have eaten these foods, you may be alarmed by the effect on the urine.

3. Check your skin

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and so your skin can give you clear signs that something is amiss health wise. Itchy skin can be an early symptom of liver problems such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. For women, that develop male pattern facial hair accompanied with adult acne, it could be a sign of polycystic ovarian syndrome or a problem with your blood. Our skin also shows us when we have allergies, and if you notice that you have flair ups after eating certain foods or taking medication, you need to visit a dermatologist to identify the source of the trigger. It is important that you become body aware. You need to know what is normal for your body so that you can quickly identify any changes that occur so that you can resolve any problems at the earliest time. Ignoring these indicators of changes in energy, urine and to your skin will be detrimental to your long-term health.
