The London Collections: Men event this summer will bring the spotlight on British menswear designers at a crucial time. As we wait for the schedule to be announced, a new video adds to the excitement

It’s not long now until British menswear finally emerges from the shadow of womenswear to stage its very own fashion event in London. Goodbye one day of men’s fashion tacked to the end of the women’s shows, and hello to a three-day blockbuster event all of its own.

Yes, dear gents, this summer there will be even more fashions for you to salivate over, uproariously mock or artily ponder (depending on your point of view) when London Collections: Men launches in June. But whether you’re an on board sartorialist or not, this is without doubt fantastic news for British menswear. Aside from further bolstering support for new emerging talent (of which there is tons thanks to the country’s amazing fashion colleges), it will also celebrate historic tailoring brands and the great British high-street, thus showcasing what makes British fashion so wonderfully unique. Expect diverse fashion action to include activities from the likes of Christopher Shannon, Topman Design, Richard James, Tom Ford, E.Tautz, Christopher Kane, James Long, Oliver Spencer, Margaret Howell, and the brilliant whipper snapping emerging talent of MAN and NEW GEN.

This week, ahead of the first official schedule of events being released, the British fashion council released a launch video, which features some of the power players of menswear, including Dylan Jones, editor of GQ and chair of the Fashion 2012 Menswear Committee, fashion critic Tim Blanks, Mr Porter’s editor Jeremy Langmead and Topman’s design director Gordon Richardson – who has been particularly integral in getting men’s fashion onto the catwalk calendar in the capital.

This morning Jones tweeted: “Less than two months to go before London Collections: Men. The schedule is released next week and it’s packed!” Meanwhile, on the GQ website, the event has already been given it’s own snappy abbreviation: LC:M, which naturally makes a marvellous hash tag.

As we revealed in February, Prince Charles is set to host what one can only assume will be a very dapper launch event to kick the whole shebang off, which rather like the Samantha Cameron hosted receptions held at Downing Street for womenswear. High fives and nice shoes all round.

Full details about who will be showing and when at the London Collections: Men event are expected to be released this week. We’ll let you know the schedule as soon as we have it.
