When It Comes To Love…Don’t Mess It Up

How to Propose

Even if you’re in a great relationship and feel that it’s the perfect time to propose, you may feel a range of emotions – namely nervousness. When proposing to your girlfriend, there’s always a chance that she will say “no.” Knowing this possibility, many guys take their time and postpone proposing until they’re absolutely sure. But how can you really be sure? In all honesty, there’s no way to be absolutely sure that someone shares the same emotional outlook as you. However, if you believe that it’s right, she’ll probably feel the same. Unless, of course, you’ve been deluding yourself.

Here are a few tips to ensure a “yes” once you decide to pop the question:

1. The perfect ring. It’s not unusual for couples to browse jewelry stores together, and for women to try on various engagement rings. Pay attention to the styles and designs that she likes. If your girlfriend is drawn to Solitaire diamonds, don’t pop the question with a princess cut. Granted, she’ll probably say “yes” regardless of the ring style. But to make the moment extra special, browse diamond engagement rings online and choose a style that fits her personality. The fact that you’ve been paying attention will work to your advantage.

2. Test the waters. Want to ensure a “yes” when you finally pop the question? If so, make sure that your girlfriend wants to get married. Most couples talk about the possibility of marriage long before the proposal. This is the best way to know that you’re on the same page and have similar goals. The last thing you want to do is catch your girlfriend completely off guard. This is certain to trigger hesitation or a flat-out “no”

3. Plan ahead. This is a special day in your girlfriend’s life. The more effort you put into the proposal, the better the outcome. Even if you’re not the most romantic guy in the world, it pays to put your own feelings aside and do whatever it takes to make the moment special and memorable. Avoid cliche proposals, such as hiding the ring in the food, and don’t even think about proposing at a sporting event. Be creative and locate the perfect spot – perhaps the location of your first date or the place where you met.

4. Practice the words. Don’t be afraid to drop to one knee. It’s a traditional and timeless move that’s guaranteed to “wow” your girlfriend. And once you’re on one knee, don’t simply utter the words, “will you marry me?” Take it a step further and tell her exactly why you want to marry her. If you cannot imagine living without her, or if you want to spend the rest of your life making her happy, this is the time to tell her.

Popping the question and hearing the word “yes” will forever change your lives. But even with the perfect ring, the most romantic location and the right words, it’s completely normal to feel nervous and scared. You might get a little tongue-tied or stumble over your words, but that’s okay. With your feelings out in the open and careful planning, how can she say “no?”
