Go on a Work-Study-Holiday

A lot of countries now offer a WHV, or Working Holiday Visa, which allows you to travel across the country while working at the same time. You can pick up smaller jobs as you backpack through a country of your choice; this allows you to earn money as you travel, which in turn will help you extend your time in the country further.

A WHV is a great way to have an adventure. You can even do it while pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a university in the United States. Thanks to the internet and technology, universities such as Arizona State University are opening up courses in various fields. You can, for instance, pursue an online RN to BSN degree from ASU while traveling across Australia.

You can return from the trip already halfway through the course and with enough money in your savings, which means you can take the time to find a better job and restart your career if you have to. It is a big risk to take, but it’s an adventure nonetheless.

Be Mindful with Your Days

Sometimes, all you have to do to have a longer trip or holiday is to be more diligent with your schedules. Most Americans have an average of 110 travel days to use. On average, we get 10 days (or 2 weeks) of vacation along with around 50 weekends. There are holidays that fall in the middle of the week too.

Let’s take this year’s Veterans Day as an example. Veterans Day will be on November 11, which is a Wednesday. If you spend 2 vacation days on the Thursday and Friday after Veterans Day, and you add the two days you get that weekend, you actually have 5 days to travel to any destination you like. You can also do the same with Thanksgiving, which will be on Thursday, November 24.

Financing the Adventures

Finding time is the easy part of the equation. The next step is to actually find the money to travel. If you choose to go with the work-holiday we talked about earlier, stretching your trips will be very easy to do. If not, however, there are still many ways you can finance the adventure. You can, for example, rent your room out when you’re gone. You can also use high-interest savings and set saving goals to prepare for a particular extended trip long before the departure date.

As they say, all roads lead to Rome. There are many ways you can turn your trips into extended adventures. These tips will get you started right away.
