As we know, Baselworld is one of the main events for the Swiss watch-making industry. Every year all the Brands have appointment with the world. And even if this event is supposed to be a Professional event with no activities to the public, it gathers more and more attention.
This year, we will discover a new Baselworld. Full new with a new main building, new stands and brands. It was a huge investment and apparently it is better than never.
Check here the official video about the new aspects:
It is a 430 million CHF project and the architects were Herzog & Meuron of Basel. The famous swiss architects are well known as they created the Tate Modern in London, the Allianz Arena in Munich, the Prada Store in Tokyo or the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The project at Baselworld is about refine traditions of modernism like simplicity, minimalism and nobility of textures and materials… Timeless which is a great theme for a Timepiece world class show.
This year, the show is later than usual. It is from April 25th to May 2nd 2013. So hopefully everybody will be able to join. Last year’s show ended with very positive figures. 104,300 visitors (+1% vs 2011) and 3,320 journalists which is an increase of 9%.
It is interesting to see how the International press get more and more interested by Baselworld. It is a great event for Sales and it is getting bigger and bigger for PR. Check the exhibition official website for more news:

You’re a professional guy. Confident. Successful. You’re about to leave for a business trip that includes everything from presenting a report to “casual” cocktail chats. And you have absolutely no idea what to pack.
Hey, you’ve got some fashion smarts. You’re fully aware of the authoritative presence conferred by your business suit, not to mention the psychological benefit to you— you just feel more professional, powerful, in-control. You’re channeling Don Draper (of AMC’s Mad Men), in fact. But how do you translate Don’s 1960s adman look to a modern working wardrobe?
source: 1.bp.blogspot.com
Let’s take a closer look, not so much at the specific design details of the dapper Don’s executive style, but more at the overall concepts.
• Think subtle. Stay away from bold colors, wildly-patterned shirts or ties, and exaggerated cuts.
• Think sleek. For the suit, the key is in the fit; look for broader shoulders that taper to the waist (no boxy jackets or baggy trousers need apply for this fashion job). Narrow is a crucial part of this look: narrow waist, narrow lapels, narrow trouser legs, narrow ties.
• Think status. Details really count with this approach to professional style. Don almost always has a pristine pocket square, and he certainly pays attention to the finishing touches, such as tastefully substantial cuff links, and, of course, the highest-quality silk ties. (You’ll find more details on the Draper look here.)
And speaking of men’s silk ties, here’s a trick for coaxing many looks out of a few pieces: develop a repertoire of different ways to knot your ties. Yes, there’s the classic Windsor, Half-Windsor, Pratt, and Four-in-Hand. (If you’re making a professional move from, say, Seattle to New York City, you might benefit from this tying tutorial, complete with videos and illustrations). And those classic knots work very well with ties that are patterned, striped, or just boldly solid-colored.
But if you’re inspired by the subtly powerful Draper look, you might want to try adding the Eldredge knot to your list. This is a fascinating (and attention-getting) knot that’s gaining popularity with professional men in 2013, and with good reason. Its intricate, origami-like finish speaks of more than mere fashion-trend-following: it says here is attention to detail, and willingness to experiment outside the sartorial box. It says, in effect, that here is original thinking.
And because the Eldredge works best with solid-color ties (the better to showcase its complex technique), it’s the perfect knot to integrate into your Mad Men-influenced professional style.
source: blackanmarriedwithkids.com
How does all this help you with your packing? Believe it or not, cultivating a modern version of Don Draper’s ’60s style can enable you to pack easily and efficiently for that multi-tasking trip. This is definitely a time when quality outweighs quantity; for example, a suit tailored with high-quality, tightly-woven gabardine is less likely to wrinkle (saving you time and steam). Add at least one shirt per trip day, and a variety of ties, cuff links, and possibly pocket squares. (You know what a difference it makes just to change from lace-ups to loafers!)
Keeping the garments you pack to a minimum and bringing a variety of accessories is a great strategy, especially when you have lots of different events to cover. Yes, it does take some planning, even strategic thinking, but all that advance effort will produce a successful, confident image that will last beyond your business week. Mr. Draper would approve.

Whether you’re boarding a plane to zip off for a day of business meetings or you’re on your way to a summer spent in Italy, you can always look stylish while doing it. There’s no reason why you should feel defeated and look slobbish just because you’re boarding a nine-hour plane ride. Fashionable travel is always possible, and you won’t have to be uncomfortable in order to achieve it.
Always remember to keep things simple. Don’t overdress. Put away those staggeringly high heels. Victoria Beckham might be known for wearing high heels around airports, but luckily you don’t need to sport that such a high maintenance look when you travel. You can still look great in a pair of great-fitting jeans and a comfortable, yet unique or stylish, top. Blazer jackets or scarfs provide a great way to keep warm in the plane’s air-conditioning while flat shoes that are easy to kick off once you’ve settled in are a great alternative to worn-out sneakers or hiking boots. Leave those for backpackers.
If you’re looking for something that’s incredibly comfortable yet remains stylish, then the maxi dress is always a good choice. Ashley Greene is known for rocking the maxi dress on airports. Another celebrity that knows just how to look great when she steps off the plane is Gwyneth Paltrow. Although she does tend to sport pretty high heals, she dresses smart, with jeans, a comfortable, yet stylish top and accessories and bags that are stylish and work together well.
Gwyneth is a great example of what accessories can do to bring style to your airport look. One of this year’s ultimate fashion items are designer coats. Keep it with you one the plane, draped over the luggage in the overhead compartments and simply throw it on as you leave the plane. You’ll look fresh as a daisy and stylish to boot while you’re waiting for your luggage – unlike all the other travelers sporting wrinkled shirts and spandex. Pick out a coat with lighter material if you’re traveling to a place that finds itself in between seasons. Your coat will not only cover up your own wrinkled clothes, but it will also give a great sense of style to your travel-look.
Another easy way to up your travel style is to invest in some beautiful luggage. You’ll be surprised at the beautiful designer luggage items available for both men and women out there. These essential items won’t only draw the attention away from the outfit that you might see as a comfortable necessity, it will also add something extra to your look that’s beautiful and unique. This will prevent you from looking like all the other similarly dressed travelers on the airport.
If you’re traveling for business, shop around for some creative leather briefcases. These luxurious items will give you a smart edge when you’re walking through the airport and onward to your business meetings. These days, women can also sport a classic leather briefcase as there are many luxury brands out there that supply sleek, stylish briefcases.
While briefcases can add a great element to a businessman/woman’s travel style, a creative suitcase that’s not as easily available in the stores as the generic suitcases can give your look a great boost. Shop around for more luxurious suitcases that boast a creative pattern or a slightly different shape than the regular suitcases out there and you’ll instantly feel more stylish while you travel. Men can settle for a brown, charcoal or black leather suitcase and women might enjoy a suitcase with a unique print on, a print that you won’t find on the run-of-the-mill suitcases available in the shops.
If you decide on which travel accessories you’re using first, then the outfit will come naturally. You’ll see that there’s not need to dress up to look good while traveling, but that a few simple accessory adjustments can promote you from look shabby and plain to being the most stylish person walking through those airport doors.

Watches have grown to be very innovative in this day in age. They also seem to be incredibly recession proof. From the design of the watch and its multiple functions to the
watch display cases there is definitely an art behind each product on the market. Below we have listed some of the innovative watches that each have their own artistic inspiration.
Nike Strive Wrist Watch
The Nike Strive watch is clearly tailored towards athletes with a hint of style. The Nike product has a sleek, flat digital face and a slender band so that the features all together seem very futuristic.
source: designbuzz.com
Nike has always taken the approach of clean look but customizable by the user too. The Nike Strive comes with various colors of faceplates: pink, silver, or gold. There is versatility in the Nike Strive as well, from running early mornings to going out at night, the watch fits in both environments. It was a hit at CES 2013.

Tokyoflash Aeon LCD Watch
The Tokyoflash Aeon LCD Watch captures your attention from first glimpse for one particular reason, the transparent LCD face displays the time in floating fashion. The concept is said to be inspired by the art of tattooing and described as, “an inventive system of overlapping characters tells the wearer the time.”
source: blog.tokyoflash.com
The Tokyoflash Aeon LCD Watch displays the time with a sense of elegance with the chronometer design. Of course the watch looks futuristic and the artistic inspiration is beyond unique.
Curve Creative, the start-up design studio, created the Nanolet – a slim watch that holds your iPod Nano at its centerpiece. The product is very light and thin when strapped around your wrist.
source: belgium-iphone.lesoir.be
Curve Creative sets itself apart by creating an attractive wrist watch that can hold an iPod but with a conventional look. Its touchscreen faceplate looks nothing less than hi-tech and with a flexible band there is always a comfortable fit.
source: dzinetrip.comsource: techcracks.com
Urwerk ur-202
The Urwerk wrist watch is very unconventional in its display because it uses telescope minute hands that count on a linear time line across the bottom of the watch face’s display. The minute hand has three arms which sit in triangular form somewhat in the middle of the watch face; the three arms rotate to show the current hour. The rotating arm is signaling the correct hour, the other two are inactive.
source: hautehorlogerie.org
The watch is able to power the rotating arms through compressed air. The Urwerk Ur-202 makes the compressed air though small wind tunnels on the backside of the watch.
The Frank Gehry Watch
Fossil was able to produce this watch at the hands of architect Frank Gehry. There is no numerical clock, but the display shows the time in a handwritten font. This type of display gives a more familiar feel, also a little less formal but still clean in design. If the time is 7:50pm it will read 10 ‘til 8.
source: forums.watchuseek.com
The Fossil product is sure to attract a younger crowd just because the clock is shown at such a personal level. The lock shows on a vertical led screen and shows both negative and positive space. There are a few customizable settings in the innovative Gehry creation.

Discover Christpher Raeburn. He is british, fashion designer and with loads of talent. Some people consider his work as “Utility-Fashion”. He explains that he designs ethically-aware collections, by utilizing re-appropriated military fabrics. He creates garments that are functional, intelligent and meticulously crafted.
Christopher Raeburn was born in Kent, East Sussex in August 13th 1982. Since his younger days, his creative skills were developed as every week, he was encouraged to draw something and then, build it up with his father on weekends.
CHRISTOPHER RAEBURN FIRST STEPS
He graduates in 2006 from the prestigious London’s Royal College of Art. During 2 years he did some work as freelance until he set up his own studio in 2008. He got his first notoriety thanks to an exhibition called Camouflage at the Imperial War Museum. In deed Christopher Raeburn was chosen because of his natural passion for military fabrics and the camouflage pattern. After a presentation of his men’s collection in Paris early 2009, he showcased his women’s collection at the London fashion week the same year. And since then he developed his collection as well as collaborations with other brands. His style in quite unique and he is known for his ethical integrity of his work.
Not only the materials used mostly come from recycled military fabrics and accessories (like parachutes) but also all the production is designed and made in England. Today more and more brands are tempted to produce in China, Bangladesh, Tunisia, etc… Only a few still have the aim to keep production locally and Christopher Raeburn is one of them.
The designer creation universe is so rich and unique that he made some interesting collaborations with other brands. The first collaboration took place in 2010 for the Swiss company Victorinox. Christopher Raeburn’s collaboration with the Makers of the original Swiss Army Knife gave birth in 2011 to a capsule collection called Remade in Switzerland.
REMADE IN SWITZERLAND for VICTORINOX
When visiting the Victorinox factory, Ræburn discovered the house where Karl Elsener, the founder of the brand, established his workshop in 1884 and created the Original Swiss Army Knife. Ræburn and the Victorinox team decided to set up a Swiss LAB on that very site for the production of the capsule collection.
Ræburn later sourced used sewing machines and equipment to furnish the Swiss LAB and invited local tailors and apprentices to work alongside his expert machinists to realize the final REMADE IN SWITZERLAND products. Here us a video about the capsule.
PROTECT for VICTORINOX
The first capsule collection was such a success that Victorinox requested a second capsule called Protected. Here the Camouflage pattern is highlighted. The British designer created the project to explore the role of clothing to protect one’s body from the elements as well as one’s responsibility to protect the environment. this collection was revealed last year for the 2013 Spring-Summer season.
Here a video about this collection, featuring an innovative time lapse, already explored in the previous capsule.
Christopher Raeburn continues his collaboration with the Swiss Brand as Artistic Director consultant for the Fashion division.
MONCLER R COLLECTION
Interested in the outdoor theme and the relationship between men and the natural elements, it was also quite natural that Christopher Raeburn extended his work to a collaboration with the famous brand Moncler. The result is a collection called R. Moncler R arises from the meeting of Moncler and Christopher Ræburn. This collection forms part of the main line and is composed of twenty designs that mix military functionality, Moncler’s signature mood and the British designer’s characteristic sense of humor.
Moncler R is a total look collection that draws its colours from the archetypal outdoor military palette: olive green, khaki, white and black are lightened with contrasting hints of sky-blue. Unusual combinations of materials such as technical wools and closed-knit cotton fabrics bring an unexpected but functional cohesion to the collection.
All these collaborations do not block Christopher Raeburn own development as a Brand and he successfully presented his last 2 collections, the 2013 Spring-Summer and the Autumn-winter collections.
Spring – Summer 2013 – DEPLOY / FLIGHT
With this collection, Christopher Raeburn balances the style and the functionality of a piece of clothe. Outdoors or urban, modern landscapes bring us to find the equilibrium in Design. For the presentation of this collection, a very intriguing and edgy video was made. Some people would say that Owls are trendy right now, I tend to believe there is a much more symbolic and holistic signification.
Autumn – Winter 2013 – OPTICS
For the new incoming collection, Christopher Raeburn sourced his inspiration at Second World War and especially the navy outfits shapes and colours.

It’s been a while I did not talk about the Lady Dior’s saga. Probably because every new “episode” was more and more boring. But here with the new Lady Dior Shadow & Light… I must say that writing an article about it became an obsession. In deed the photographic work is purelly magnificent. Congratulations to the Maison Dior by bringing back this vintage yet modern twisted imagery.
Marion Cotillard is put on stage by the artistic eye of Jean-Baptiste Mondino. She is fresh, super elegant, naturally sexy and definitely the Dior allure. The photographic work is divine. Less is more and sometimes photographers should come back to basics, which means light, perspective and the “eye”.
The artistic work is interesting because there is a modernization of what a Man Ray would have done. We keep the lights, the very unnatural pose but there is much more than that. There is a video clip touch on it. That’s why Jean-Baptiste Mondino was the perfect person for this shot. He masters photography and Video clips. He also shot many campaigns for Dior with Marion Cotillard, so he knows her plastics very well. He was also the person behind the J’adore video ad with Charlize Theron.
So here we have lights exposing the model and the objects in a very traditional way, but the photographer played with color philters which give a kind of rock-urban attitude. It is very subtle but it brings all the interest of it. It is all about a traditional structure with a modern signature. Like Marion Cotillard’s look: A beautiful Dior “new Look style” with just a simple black top. No Jewels, just a simple yet modern hair cut and make up. It is so modern!
The making of is available on the Dior youtube channel and you can watch it here below. The photos and the video could have been a Tarantino movie.
Marion Cotillard has really something of a natural elegance. Here she has a role of a Femme Fatale, like we loved to watch in the 50’s. Between the anti-heroine and the sensual woman, the femme fatale is definitely a timeless feminine archetype. And because Marion Cotillard is not one, it gives a sort of modernity to the role.
