Fashion Roundup: RiRi Takes Over LFW and Marc Jacobs as Hunky Diet Coke Man

What's wrong with this picture? What's wrong with this picture?

Each week FashionTV rounds-up the most fashionable highlights of the week from the web: The best cover shot of the week, sexy trends, and amazing videos!

Cover Shot of the Week:Sarah Jessica Parker covers the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar China, but the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not she’s been photoshopped? In fact the shot is so strange that the fashion guru (as she is described in the article) is being compared to an alien?! Too harsh? Well we think so too, but it will certainly be remembered as one of the year’s Photoshop fails. (Examiner)

Hot in the News:The biggest event in fashion this week was London Fashion Week, and the most talked about show from LFW is Rihanna’s debut collection for River Island. Unfortunately the reviews are not living up to the expectations, with RiRi slammed for being an hour late as well as criticism of collection that has been described as “a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.” Nevertheless she helped stir huge buzz for the British brand -- even though she may have not actually designed the clothes! (Huffington Post)

Sexy Alert:If you have not yet seen Keira Knightley’s new Chanel commercial, then now is the time. The advert has been banned on children’s television networks by the ASA, as it is deemed “too sexy” for young viewers. Chanel defended the ad, saying it is “playful and sensual” rather than “overtly sexual.” Can Keira Knightley be too sexy? Judge for yourself… (Vogue UK)

Trend Spotter:This week on the trend spotter, we’ve seen a great collection of hot nails from London Fashion Week. From models wearing black nail polish at Moschino Cheap & Chic to the autumnal brown polish at Issa London. Take a look! (Bella Sugar)

Designer Special:Every fashion week, at least one brand will get a lot of attention for being technically innovative rather than for its fashion. This LFW it seems that Topshop got the most attention for announcing a partnership with Google+ for live streaming their Fall 2013 show on G+ Hangout. “What we need is infusion with technology,” says the brand. FashionTV has now been streaming live events from global fashion weeks for three seasons in a row! Is the future of fashion shows via the internet? (Bloginity)

Cool Video Spot:Marc Jacobs has been announced as the new creative director of Diet Coke for 2013. Jacobs has applied his skills to design the new line of Diet Coke cans and is starring in a new ad for the brand as the hunky “Diet Coke Man,” which is actually pretty adorable:

Bridal Bliss: Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week

The 22nd annual Bridal Fashion Week took place in Barcelona. Gorgeous wedding gowns, suits for grooms, enchanting jewelry and other stunning bridal accessories were at the heart of this luxurious event. FashionTV was at the front row, and now we invite you to experience a bride’s dream come true.

One of the most critical questions before every wedding is, “what will the bride wear?” Top designers are putting their best efforts forward in order to create the perfect dress for this perfect day. Once a year, those top designers travel to Barcelona in order to reveal their new bridal collections. Jewelry, platform shoes, hair designs, and a plethora of white gowns were the center of attention at this Bridal Fashion Week 2012.

Barcelona Bridal Week is a three day event of wedding bliss. Both Spanish and international fashion designers are invited to reveal their new bridal collections, in an event that draws worldwide attention.

The Gaudi fashion show was one of Bridal Fashion Week’s highlights. During the show, top designer Elie Saab revealed his most recent bridal collection for the brand Pronovias. Former Victoria’s Secret model Karolina Kurkova and top Israeli model Bar Refaeli were two of the models that lit up Saab’s catwalk. Kurkova, Refaeli, and the rest of the stunning models on the runway presented Saab’s romantic and sophisticated gowns. Saab’s bridal collection featured brilliant fashion creations with majestic volumes and impeccable finishings.

Rosa Clara’s fashion show was a great opportunity to see how a talented designer can push the limits of gender definitions. Clara chose androgynous male model Andrej Pejic to open her bridal fashion show. The twenty-year-old model wore an ethereal white wedding gown, with a thin ribbon under the bust, and a layered skirt which revealed his beautiful white platform shoes.

Throughout the show, Pejic modeled another wedding dress. This time it was a floor-length textured gown. Although he wasn’t the only model on the runway, he definitely stole the show.

Rosa Clara’s runway show wasn’t the first time Pejic put on a wedding dress. The last time he donned a bridal gown was during the Jean-Paul Gaultier spring couture show. Pejic went on stage wearing a white feathered dress, which almost left no room for imagination…

The 22nd annual Bridal Fashion Week offered up a great chance for national young fashion designers to showcase their collections. Hannibal Laguna, Nicole Sposa, Paula Vas, and Joana Montez & Patricia de Melo are just a few of the designers who showcased their bridal visions for the upcoming wedding season. If you’re planning your dream wedding, or simply love bridal couture, then be sure to check out the photos from Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week!

The New YSL – Saint Laurent Paris

A new era for legendary fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has begun. Top designer Hedi Slimane, YSL’s new and talented creative director, has decided to change the brand’s name to Saint Laurent Paris. This extreme and surprising move is just one part of the plan to bring new spirit and fresh designs to the rejuvenated brand.

When Hedi Slimane took over Stefano Pilati’s chair as the new creative director at Yves Saint Laurent back in March, a wind of change filled the air. Now the actual changes are taking place. The talented and innovative designer has decided to change the legendary brand’s name to a more casual and playful one. So, from now on – Yves Saint Laurent – OUT. Saint Laurent Paris – IN!

According to WWD, the new name should be implemented within a few months. By the time Slimane will reveal his Spring/Summer 2013 collection, the new name will replace the old one.

Though the new name came as a surprise, it matches Slimane’s plans to bring new spirit to the ancient fashion house. Freedom, youth and modernity are the designer’s new themes. But those themes are not going to replace the components that inspired legendary Yves Saint Laurent, the founder of the fashion house. According to Slimane, those inspirations will remain, but with a new twist that can draw a young and new crowd.

As remembered, in 1996 Slimane was the director of the YSL men’s ready-to-wear line. After the debut of his successful “Black Tie” collection, he chose to leave the brand in favour of another top French label Christian Dior Homme. In 2007 he decided to make another career turn and went back to his first love – photography.

Nowadays Hedi Slimane is working on his first ready-to-wear collection as Saint Laurent Paris’s creative director. The highly-anticipated collection will be revealed during the upcoming Paris Fashion Week. This fashion week will start on September 25th and will be over 8 days later, on October 3rd.

FashionTV will be there to bring you the best fashion shows; newest trends and unique lines .Stay tuned and join us for the seasonal Parisian fashion celebration.

Peter Som has left his consulting role at Tommy Hilfiger. Both parties have confirmed the decision as being mutual. Som joined the brand in 2009 with the task of bringing more modern styles to Hilfiger’s women’s runway collection. (Marie Claire)

Karlie Kloss will be on the cover of the Vogue Japan September issue, posing in an Yves Saint Laurent chainmail dress. Strangely enough, the fierce look is quite similar to Elle’s July issue, were Selena Gomez was wearing a very similar YSL chainmail dress. (Styleite)

The Teen Choice Awards 2012 was filled with color and sparkly shoes as the big winners of the night, Twilight stars (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), as well as Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, received most of the attention throughout the evening. Although fashion wise, one might say undeservingly. (Huffington Post)

Madonna’s brother Christopher Ciccone is set to hit London and other Fashion Week capitals with his first footwear collection. Ciccone will design styles for men, women and children combining leather and rubber to create fashionable but functional shoes. (New York Daily News)

Wooyoungmi: ManMade

Marking a decade since the brand's inception, sisters Woo Youngmi and Woo Janghee have created ManMade, a series of collaborations beyond clothes.

Alfred Sargent, a 100+ year old English shoemaker; Russian porcelain studio {far}4 and bag maker JoJo Messenger are amongst those partnered, each specialist is chosen to offer a product in the spirit of Wooyoungmi's lifestyle.

The objects are offered in tandem with an exhibition by artists Clemens Kraus and Lee Song at the label's Paris pop-up gallery on rue des Arquebusiers. We caught up with the designer siblings to learn more.

Dazed Digital: How did the project come about?
Wooyoungmi: We wanted to share a more complete vision of the Wooyoungmi world, as well as creating a space entirely devoted to men. The ManMade lifestyle element strives to offer everything that the Wooyoungmi man might need throughout his day, but takes these ordinary objects to a luxury level through careful selection of brand partners, usually small expert producers. The gallery/event space extends our view on art as an essential part of everyday life and allows the customer to discover artists in a less formal or intimidating atmosphere. But it also allows us to host all kinds of cultural events that appeal to men and create an interactive and relaxed retail experience.

DD: What do you enjoy about collaborating?
Wooyoungmi: For us collaboration is about working with people that are experts in a particular field, for example someone using specialist manufacturing, or artisanal production techniques. This allows us to bring our vision into the more rarified 'artisanal' and specialist world.

DD: What are some of your favourite products from this exhibition?
Wooyoungmi: MM by C. Dellstrand folios – the C. Dellstrand aesthetic is very clean and minimal, so it wasn't obvious where a Wooyoungmi twist could be added without losing that. Itwas a very involved collaboration and a very open project; we think the end result speaks for itself. Also the MM by Jojo Messenger tool kit because it's what ManMade as a concept is about, elevating the everyday. As we're a men's concept store it makes sense that we'd want to elevate the most mundane of 'manly' tasks, DIY, into something enjoyable, beautiful and luxurious.

Christopher Kane parting ways with Versus. The Scottish designer states that he is really excited about the new direction for Versus, but his main focus right now will be on his own Christopher Kane label. Meanwhile it is said that Donatella Versace will design the brand's new line. (Styleite)

After starring in blockbusters such as Inception, Midnight in Paris and The Dark Knight Rises, Cotillard stuns in a Christmassy ‘Red Hot’ appearance in an architectural red coat and metallic belt. (Huffington Post)
