Louis Vuitton Gstaad

Louis Vuitton opens in Gstaad and Cancun, as Bernard Arnault announces a new strategy to limit store openings, to avoid becoming too commonplace

LVMH recently announced results for 2012, where group revenue reached €28.1 billion, an increase of 19% compared to 2011. But where increases seemed noticeably slower in comparison to previous years, was the Fashion & Leather Goods category that reported organic revenue growth of just 7%.

LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault remained unfazed, explaining to Bloomberg: “Of course it would be easier for Louis Vuitton to boost its revenue, all it would take would be to launch 10 new products with the monogram product, but down the road it’s not a good strategy.”

“The group’s strategy now is to limit store openings,” he commented to Reuters. “We want to focus on leather products with high value added.” Mr. Arnault also confirmed the brand will not open boutiques in second and third-tier cities in China to “avoid becoming too commonplace.”

An excerpt from Diane von Furstenberg’s Glossi

Montblanc teams up with Harrods to launch an in-store augmented reality experience, as Herms partners with Harper’s Bazaar to retail a limited collection online.

In the past month the digital luxury landscape has been dominated by the moves of the media and retailers. As the New York times announced restructuring measures to the tune of thirty senior journalists, Net-a-Porter announced its intention to launch a full-blown fashion glossy.

As Rupert Murdoch confirmed he will shutter The Daily – the iPad-only magazine he launched two years ago – social-shopping company ThisNext unveiled Glossi, a platform which allows users and brands to create their very own digital magazines.

But perhaps nothing was more surprising, than to hear that Herms will be retailing a selection of footwear on the eCommerce venture of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar. Digital may have muddied the waters, but never have the lines between brand, retailer and publisher been so blurred.

Fashion Roundup: Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe Costs Revealed, Spice Girls Reunite and 90’s Supermodel Shalom Harlow is Back!

Fashion Roundup: Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe Costs Revealed, Spice Girls Reunite and 90's Supermodel Shalom Harlow is Back!

So tell me what you want, what you really, really want? FashionTV can tell you what we want--a Spice Girls reunion! Fortunately for us, we got just that and so did the rest of the world when Ginger, Baby, Sporty, Scary, and Posh Spice appeared at the St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel to promote the new Spice Girls jukebox musical Viva Forever, featuring many of the girl group’s greatest hits. While the five fashionistas won’t star in the production starting December 11, we’re hoping that at least Geri Halliwell’s British flag bodysuit and Victoria Beckham’s leather dress getup will make an appearance. (Huffington Post)

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton may be known for recycling Alexander McQueen dresses and LK Bennett pumps, but she isn’t known for spending a whole lot of money on her wardrobe. Still, just exactly how much is she spending? The details will be found out in a few days when Prince Charles’ financial statements are officially revealed to the public. Her clothes have been said to cost in the $54,000 and up range, thanks to designs from Jenny Packham, Roland Mouret, and more for high-end functions. (The Cut)

She’s baaacck! Shalom Harlow was popular in the 90's, modeling for big brands like Valentino and Thierry Mugler. Since then, she hasn’t stopped modeling, but she hasn’t had the fame of model counterparts Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford, even with an MTV reality show. This may all change with her newest campaign to date---Shalom is the face of the Jason Wu fall campaign where she poses as a Chinese warrior in the style of Wu’s most recent Fall 2012 collection. (Fashionista)

Kate Moss is a top model and after her stylish wedding to Jamie Hince, there was talk of her little sister Lottie taking the modeling reigns from her big sis. Now there’s another Moss hoping to step in and she may do it sooner than you think--if god sister Iris Law has anything to say about it. Law, the daughter of Sadie Frost and Jude Law, told Amuse magazine that she has been setting up photoshoots with Lila because it’s fashion. Let’s just hope that when Lila Moss finally makes her runway debut, she won’t be into the anti-model heroin chic look like mother Kate. (Telegraph)

The word is out on Margherita Missoni’s big wedding to race car driver Eugenio Amos and while it turns out that Giambattista Valli did not actually make her wedding dress, he was available for consultation on the couture elements. In an update, Grazia says Margherita Missoni herself created the gypsy stunner, using tailors in Sumirago to piece together the Missoni silk and organza in a setup she designed. (Grazia)

You may know him as sneaky rich kid with a good heart Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl, but now Ed Westwick can also add fashion model to his already full resume. Westwick strut his stuff down the catwalk at the Philipp Plein show during Milan Men’s Fashion Week. He also appears in the Swiss brand’s Fall/Winter ad campaign shot by photographer Terry Richardson. (WWD)

A Critical Chinese Economic Report Is Coming Out Tonight

At 8:45 PM EST tonight, we'll get the

HSBCFlash

manufacturing

PMI

report.

Economists expect the number to rise to 50.8 from 50.5 a month ago.

Overall, the recent data out of the world's second largest economy has been bullish. Earlier this month, we learned that retail sales and industrial production had accelerated in November.

"The Chinese economy is undoubtedly heating up," said SocGen economist Wei Yao.

However, November trade data was unexpectedly weak raising doubts about the recovery. Exports slowed substantially and import growth fell to zero.

"We believe the big volatility in export growth since Sep 2012 could be driven by a bunch of factors such as working days and base effects, but we would like to highlight that strikes in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in California from 27 Nov to 4 Dec could play a role as these two ports handle 40% of American imports (surely much more of imports from Asia)," said Bank of America Merrill Lynch's Ting Lu.

China is a key source of growth for the global economy. As such, all eyes will be on China tonight.

MISS: Japan’s Tankan Manufacturing Survey Falls More Than Expected

japan japanese man

Flickr/Adam Chamness

Japan's large manufacturer Tankan survey fell to -12 from a previous reading of -3.

Economists were looking for the metric to fall to -10.

More to come...

SocGen's Wei Yao was looking for a reading of -7.

"Large manufacturers probably suffered most from the political tension between China and Japan, and we think business conditions for them will have deteriorated to -7 from -3 in Q3, as Chinese consumers avoided purchases of Japanese products, especially Japanese automobiles," wrote Yao in a note prior to the report.

Liu Wen

Twenty four year old Chinese model Liu Wen began her modeling career in 2005 when her mother coerced her into entering the New Silk Road World Model Contest, previously won by supermodel Du Juan. Wen didn’t win, but has gone on to walk for designers from Dior to Dolce, feature in pretty much every edition of Vogue, and reach number 5 in models.com’s Top 50 Models Women List anyway. Oh, and she also holds the accolade of being the first model of Chinese descentto walk for Victoria’s Secret. Following her appearance in our #Fantasia issue, styled by Robbie Spencer in Raf Simons’s first Haute Couture collection for Dior, we filmed the model pulling faces on the streets of – the city she now calls home – New York.
