Louis Vuitton Gstaad

Louis Vuitton opens in Gstaad and Cancun, as Bernard Arnault announces a new strategy to limit store openings, to avoid becoming too commonplace

LVMH recently announced results for 2012, where group revenue reached €28.1 billion, an increase of 19% compared to 2011. But where increases seemed noticeably slower in comparison to previous years, was the Fashion & Leather Goods category that reported organic revenue growth of just 7%.

LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault remained unfazed, explaining to Bloomberg: “Of course it would be easier for Louis Vuitton to boost its revenue, all it would take would be to launch 10 new products with the monogram product, but down the road it’s not a good strategy.”

“The group’s strategy now is to limit store openings,” he commented to Reuters. “We want to focus on leather products with high value added.” Mr. Arnault also confirmed the brand will not open boutiques in second and third-tier cities in China to “avoid becoming too commonplace.”

Fashion Flashback: The Best Fashion Campaigns Featuring Kate Moss, Gisele and Madonna

Fashion Flashback: The Best Fashion Campaigns Featuring Kate Moss, Gisele and Madonna

In honor of FashionTV’s 15th anniversary, we are sharing with you three of the most remarkable fashion campaigns the world has ever seen. See Kate Moss posing below zero degrees, Gisele in a stunning summer Missoni collection and Madonna’s iconic LV shoot with Marc Jacobs. It’s the small details, the fabulous collections and of course – the stunning locations – that make these fashion moments unforgettable.

Kate Moss for Absolute Versace 1999

One of the most beautiful (and freezing campaigns) is the one Kate Moss shot for Absolute Versace. The frozen atmosphere served as an excellent backdrop as supermodel Kate Moss wore a magnificent gray dress and was styled in pale make up. Moss proved to be the perfect ice queen. While the campaign was for Absolute Vodka, the Versace team treated it as a full-fledged fashion production. More than 10 years later, the Absolute Versace campaign still stands out as a memorable campaign moment.

Gisele Bundchen for Missoni 2002

The Italian fashion brand chose supermodel Gisele Bundchen for its Spring 2002 campaign. Photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were behind the scene, directing and shooting Bundchen as she posed in various sexy positions. The wild rocks and the calm blue sea served as the perfect backdrop to Missoni's colorful summer line. Bundchen looked divine posing for the camera, with her wild hair and gorgeous smile, showcasing the new Missoni items.

Madonna for Louis Vuitton 2009

Marc Jacobs chose Madonna as the face of Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2009 campaign, and according to him, more than 30 costume colors were made in order to get the absolute perfection for the queen of pop. This is a great chance to get behind the scenes and watch how great minds merge and get the ultimate campaign for the luxury French fashion house.

Fashion Roundup: Victoria’s Secret Apologizes for Racist Hints and MTV Award Winner Taylor Swift Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Victoria’s Secret apologizes for using a Native American style headdress at their annual fashion show. The lingerie brand has been receiving a lot of heat and criticism for their ignorance towards tribal culture. We expect this apology to be accepted. Even Justin Bieber was mesmerized by the event, which set new standards for runway shows. (Washington Post)

Would you buy a dress for $480,000?! You would--if this dress was worn by Dorothy in the 1939 movie production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The famous blue gingham pinafore dress with white short-sleeve blouse sold for almost half-a-million-dollars at a Beverly Hills auction. (Examiner)

Pippa Middleton sells magazines but not so many books… Her new book ‘Celebrate’- a guide to party planning, was expected to be a bestseller, but as of yet sold only 2,000 copies in its first week and is not even in the top-300 books list at Amazon. Her publisher reportedly paid her an advance of $600,000, an investment which seems to be slow at showing signs of any return. (Huffington Post)

The 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards award winner, Taylor Swift, covers Harper’s Bazaar December/January issue. The pop/country singer, who is usually seen wearing sparkly gowns and sweet girlish dresses, makes a transformation to wearing Ralph Lauren pants. Despite opting for trousers, she admits to wearing dresses since she was a teen and still love the no-pants look. (Harper’s Bazaar)

Vogue’s December issue will feature Anne Hathaway in a pixie cut after dropping 25 pounds for her role in ‘Les Miserables’. In the magazine Anne talks about her secret marriage and also explains how she lost so much weight in a diet that she refers to as ‘near-starvation-diet. Do not try this at home! (Fashionista)

Bomber jacket sales surge as London 2012 Olympics boost sporty fashion

Thanks to stars such as Jude Law, Justin Bieber and Will.i.am and the influence of this summer's Olympics, retailers are reporting a surge in interest for the bomber jacket.

Luxury retailers and the high street have seen major interest from consumers despite the squeeze on personal finances, with styles in leather, jersey and technical fabrics all selling well.

The online retailer Asos has sold more than 5,000 bomber jackets in the past two months and recently ordered 20,000 more worth 1m for next season.

Topman has also had an "extremely positive reaction" to the jacket shape both in its larger stores and online. It plans to roll out more variations regionally in the coming weeks and will be building on its current range of 15 styles for autumn.

Robert Johnston, associate editor of GQ, said the appeal was simple. "It's express fashion," he said. "Bomber jackets are really easy to wear because you can just shove them on with jeans and a T-shirt. Plus they have pockets, which makes them practical."

Terry Betts, senior buyer for Mr Porter, flagged up their versatility. "They work well with chinos and denim, and create a clean silhouette accentuated by the fact they are fitted and stop at the waist," he said. They have the "wearability factor" said John Mooney, head of men's design at Asos. "There's something for everyone in the bomber jacket repertoire, whether you're a lad's lad or a fashion guy.".

Bomber jackets also have relatively ageless appeal, as shown by the celebrities who have taken to wearing them of late. Stacey Smith, menswear buyer for Matches, said: "Ryan Gosling in Drive last year proved they're not just for the twentysomething man."

Esquire has featured the look on its cover for the past two months. The May issue shows John Hamm in a seersucker style while the current cover has Michael Fassbender in a black leather Gucci version.

Betts said the bomber had evolved from a simple "utility garment in nylon", helping it reach a broader audience. "We have them in seersucker, linen, leather and even reversible versions," he said.

Reece Crisp, men's contemporary and design wear buyer at Selfridges, said the bomber had proved a hit because of strong performances across the board, from traditional varsity styles to luxury versions in leather by labels such as Alexander Wang.

But the bomber's popularity is also a reflection of a move in men's fashion towards sportier clothes, said Crisp. "Sportswear as an aesthetic is really having a moment and the bomber is a staple piece within that look.".

This sporty look has been seen in menswear from upcoming designer names at London fashion week, such as the increasingly influential Christopher Shannon, to powerhouse brands in Paris and Milan. Johnston said luxury sportswear was becoming "increasingly sophisticated".

One of the most influential collections for spring/summer 2012, by Louis Vuitton, featured designer versions of varsity jackets and sporty shorts made from expensive fabrics such as suede.

These are also selling well. Smith has seen a great response from customers towards statement bombers this season. "It seems men are more willing to explore bolder colours and textures when they are tempered by a sportier shape," she said.
