Mirror, Mirror

If you're looking for infinity, you'll find it harnessed on the third floor in Dover Street Market. Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent collection – menswear, womenswear and accessories – is reflected to the hilt in a cabinet of dress-up geometry.

Appropriating techniques and materials from French Art Deco with Bauhaus influence, repetitive vitrines are constructed in poli mirror, brass and extra clear mirror, playing the House code of silver and gold in unison. It's the ultimate frame for Slimane's youth quake tailoring, leather jackets, suspended Paris heels and blue jeans, an item Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent had great regard for, quoting, "They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes". This installation remains equally as potent empty of the ritualistic wardrobe.

It's not the first time Slimane has exhibited at Rei Kawakubo's original concept store, however, as the creative showcased his F System furniture project back in 2007, a series of artisan crafted loveseats and tables transposed – and disrupted – from historical silhouettes in stainless steel and ebony.

Mayfair's the hotspot where the impetus of other eras meets the future, it seems. All those mirrors make sure the romance bounces the right way.

Louis Vuitton Gstaad

Louis Vuitton opens in Gstaad and Cancun, as Bernard Arnault announces a new strategy to limit store openings, to avoid becoming too commonplace

LVMH recently announced results for 2012, where group revenue reached €28.1 billion, an increase of 19% compared to 2011. But where increases seemed noticeably slower in comparison to previous years, was the Fashion & Leather Goods category that reported organic revenue growth of just 7%.

LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault remained unfazed, explaining to Bloomberg: “Of course it would be easier for Louis Vuitton to boost its revenue, all it would take would be to launch 10 new products with the monogram product, but down the road it’s not a good strategy.”

“The group’s strategy now is to limit store openings,” he commented to Reuters. “We want to focus on leather products with high value added.” Mr. Arnault also confirmed the brand will not open boutiques in second and third-tier cities in China to “avoid becoming too commonplace.”

Iris Van Herpen Couture SS13

Iris Van Herpen is the first digital couturier, embracing technology and playing with the tension of adding the mechanical, the technological to the ever-so romantic art of high fashion.

In a huge circular salon at the Paris Intercontinental, a stone's throw from the Opra Garnier, the Dutch designer was inspired by her childhood dream to create and control lightning. We were treated to a performance of exactly that by a moving statue on a podium, setting the ambience for the pulsating beat of the show.

Van Herpen, interviewed in the February issue of Dazed, deals with science and biology to create her powerful world. She's the first couturier to employ 3D printing in a collection, with the latest multi-material technology contracting a skirt and cape that's both hard and soft in a single build, drawing on the multidimensionalism that human petit mains offer.

With such fantastic aspiration, Van Herpen is aware of the need to give her work a more tangible context. The clue to that was in the seating and exit music, by Grimes, who is also the face of the designer's new ready-to-wear campaign. In Clare Boucher she's found a pop muse to carry it off.

Fashion Flashback: A Decade of White Fashion

White is the most basic color. It’s clean, elegant, fresh, and sophisticated all at the same time. As part of FashionTV’s 15th anniversary, we are happy to share with you some of the most memorable white moments on the catwalk.

White Apocalypse 2000

At the beginning of 21st century, many thought the end of the world was just around the corner, designers included. So, for their 2000 collections, many went for apocalyptic white designs. The strict cuts, shapely figures, and simple lines were all symbolic of a return to the core of nature. Simplicity in white was the message on nearly all catwalks.

Tendance Absolute White 2000

Sexy and Sweet White 2003

White is an extremely versatile hue, it can be ultra sexy or simply sweet. In 2003, designers decided to give the color many different interpretations. While many designers used white to represent sexiness (a’la Marilyn Monroe), many others used the color with more virginal themes.

The result of the diverse representations:a mixture of dresses, suits, beachwear, skirts, pants, and a world of accessories all in white. After watching this clip, you may ask yourselves, “why do we need any other color?”

Tendance – Total White 2003

White Fever 2009

Whether it was in Milan, New York, or Paris, 2009 was the year of white. Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Lagerfeld, and Dsquared2 were just a few of the many top brands that chose white as the center-point of their collections.

Runways across the globe during Fashion Week were filled with an array of looks all in white, bringing a fresh and vivid spirit to the catwalks.

White 2009

Although blues, reds, greens, purples, and pinks can add a lot to runways, designers throughout the past decade seem to agree: there is something magical to a completely white ensemble.

Fashiontv had the pleasure of being at the front row during these sensational shows, and will continue to bring you the best of fashion in the future.

Alternative Fashion Week: It’s All About Fashion

They may not be as popular as Marc Jacobs, Jean-Paul Gaultier or Vivienne Westwood yet, but many would say they are not less talented. Alternative Arts present East London's Alternative Fashion Week! Alternative Fashion Week features new designers, fresh models and innovative designs during a six-day fashion celebration.

Each season, Paris, Milan, New York and London are host to a major international fashion week, presenting the latest by top designers such as Dior, Givenchy, Versace and many others. For a new designer, showing at one of these major fashion weeks can be a long and frustrating road. As for the public, it is nearly impossible to get a front row seat at the major shows, many of which are reserved for celebrities, first class journalists, models and other designers.

Once a year, East London hosts an extravagant fashion event that abandons the strict hierarchy that governs the major fashion weeks, and gives new fashion designers a chance to rise.

Alternative Fashion Week strives to guarantee availability for everyone. Designers don't have to pay to present their collection, admission is free for the runway shows and even the models are volunteers who take a free six-week crash course in modeling before they walk the runway. The refreshing fashion week is a six-day event sponsored by Alternative Arts. According to their website, the fashion week is a great opportunity for new fashion designers to glow.

14 different designers present on each day of the fashion week. Those talented designers are chosen from hundreds of applications.

Eco Friendly Fashion

This year, the Alternative Fashion Week's program includes designers from UK, Italy, Spain, Norway as well as from Sri-Lanka and Uruguay. New brands like Majo Rey, Stella & Dot, Didou Boutique and Eliza Joan are just some of the fashion designers presenting.

At Alternative Fashion Week, both designers and producers put emphasis on environmental awareness. Recycled textiles and eco friendly industrial aspects are at the heart of many new collections.

New Designers, New Models, Lots of Shopping

Apart from the chance to possibly discover the next Galliano, new fresh face beautiful models can get their start at Alternative Fashion Week.

Unlike Paris or New York Fashion Week, designer items can be purchased once the show is over. London-style fashion, cutting-edge accessories, and shopping make Alternative Fashion Week an experience that’s worth having.
