Stasha, Colour, let’s paint the rainbow in London.

stasha-colour

Following Stasha’s last sell out exhibitions REACTION in 2005 and SOFT in 2006, she is once again taking the London art scene by storm with her new vibrant collection of work, simply called COLOUR.

Stasha-Rainbow
Stasha – Rainbow 250cm x 200cm, Acrylic on canvas

Her style is a complete freedom on the movements. Her creative mind liberates the artist paintbrush to a very original artwork. In this new exhibition, colour is honored. It is an interesting work, between abstraction, expressionism and the courage of Rothco in terms of colours.

When compared to her last two shows, Stasha explains why this collection is so different:

I stood in this bright white room, a total blank canvas…so unlike the past two exhibitions because they were both painted outside in the garden…REACTION – a burst of energy and passion…SOFT – inspired by the beautiful spring blossoms that fell as I painted…but here I was, inside, in a white room…and all I could think of was COLOUR. Colour colour colour, like a balm. Like life. Like living, being alive….Colour from the inside of me just poured out and time and time again I let myself get totally lost in the moment…and very soon, my white room was no longer white….but filled instead with so many beautiful colours.”

Stasha-neighbours
Stasha – Neighbours 120cm x 120cm, Acrylic on canvas

Stasha once again employs her trademark technique of “freestyle painting” without the use of conventional brushes, working with acrylic paints and water on canvas; using the floor, rather than an easel:

Only very rarely do I use an actual brush. I like to use my hands. I like to feel the paint, use my fingers, my weight. I do not have the patience to sit still with a brush. What I see comes out far too quickly….

With some of the canvases measuring up to 7x8ft, Stasha used planks of wood to move around the entire width of the canvases until she got what she wanted: “With a foot balancing on an edge, helping the painting along a little, like a river, ‘till it flows just right. I tilt this way and that, centimetre angles, whatever it needs…I will not, can not, leave my canvases until I am sure they have settled.

Stasha-electric
Stasha – Electric 159cm x 159cm, Acrylic on canvas

With this unusual style of painting, it seems that Stasha never sits still for too long: “The only time I am still is at the very beginning, where, cup of tea in hand, I make myself sit in front of a beautiful blank white canvas, look at it until I see what I see and can stand it no longer, normally the length of a cigarette. Then I start!”

Stasha lives in St. John’s Wood, north London with her partner Tony and their three children; Jonah, Jordan and Lily and their dogs; Carling, Johnny and Burmese cat, Romeo.

COLOUR- An exhibition by Stasha will be on show at The Gallery in Cork Street from June 4th- 9th , with a second surmised viewing at the
Imitate Modern Gallery, June 24th- 29th 2012.

Colour up your life!

Jitrois: Artists, Lovers and Decadence.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Jitrois presents its new Fall-Winter 2012-2013 campaign called Artists, Lovers, Decadence. A beautiful and classy inspiration from the 20’s intellectual bohemians.

Jitrois-Fall-Winter-2012-2013

The campaign is shot by Rankin, who collaborates with the fashion house for the past 6 years. For memory, John Rankin Waddell is a british fashion photographer. He founded together with Jefferson Hack the international magazine Dazed & Confused.
We can say that Jitrois is not only back but they are now moving forward with a beautiful elegance and modernism. This new collection shapes the forms in a quite cutting edge design, highlighting the body anatomic volumes. Leather and other materials blend in an interesting alliance. Between avant-gardism and neo-retro. Love it.

Here a mood video based on the official visuals:

The style is done by Katie Shillingford, the fashion editor of Dazed & Confused. She knows very well Rankin and they understand each other on a style and fashion level. By saying this, don’t need to explain how hot  Jitrois got by choosing such a team.

The Jitrois’ website is also amazing. For the first seconds, you get a electro-rock intro with a full screen video, that makes it surprising and exciting. Then, a very interesting feature: you can discover the new collection in a 3D mode. The different models are exposed with a 3D feature, so that you can turn around each look thanks to your computer mouse. Just try, it is really well done.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Next month we will have the London Olympic games, so you will probably visit the british capital during that time. There is not only sports in live, art too. So if you will be in London then, you need to visit an interesting exhibition by Jessica Zoob. It is called Passion and  it will take place at NEO Bankside.

jessica-zoob-passion-4

The style expressed in this collection is amazing and electrifying. Passion liberates the artist. It make her get rid of barriers and feel the freedom under her brush. What is interesting here is that we could see an amazing reference to impressionism but in a more modern and liberated way. On this, we could link Jessica Zoob’s work here as Contemporary art. She got her freedom from the mainstreams to create her own.

Here some of the great artwork you can see during the exhibition.

Jessica Zoob trained at Central School of Art and Nottingham University, during which she travelled extensively, spending time on research in China and exploring other parts of Indonesia.
For seven years, she worked as a theatre designer at venues including the Bristol Old Vic, the Royal National Theatre and Greenwich Theatre.

Since 2000, Jessica has worked exclusively as an artist from her Lewes home and studio. She exhibits regularly in and around London and has works in private collections worldwide.

“My environment has always inspired me, whether rural or urban. I love untamed nature, craggy rocks and bleak moors. I find myself fascinated and moved by crumbling plaster walls that reveal the bones of a building and bear its human history in marks and faded paint. This interplay between man and nature often finds its way into my work. I do not usually intend the paintings to be figurative but they are often completed and given meaning by the viewer’s imagination. I may be inspired by a storm, a mountain, or a love affair – or possibly all three,” says Jessica Zoob.

Jessica’s new and extraordinary exhibition entitled Passion will be exclusively on view at luxury property development, NEO Bankside, London from 5th – 26th July 2012 (previews available from 2nd July). Viewings are by appointment only. Call 07966 572204 or email info@jessicazoobdesire.com.

The Nevica Project – new online exhibitions

0
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Nevica Project is probably an unique art gallery in which all exhibitions are online. The Nevica Project was created by Jayson Lawfer, experienced in the world of Arts, accomplished artists (Ceramic) and Curator for several exhibitions.

This month we can discover new pottery by Kenyon Hansen and drawings by Veronica Bruce. According to Jayson Lawfer:
“These are debut exhibitions (with TNP) by both artists and we couldn’t be more impressed. Both artists are creating quite a buzz in their respectable fields. They have been traveling, gaining experience through artist residencies, securing key exhibition opportunities and making confident work. Kenyon has shipped all his pieces here to Chicago, so please contact us if you would like to view them in person. Veronica has a studio here in the city and we will be setting up studio visits throughout the month.”

This exhibition features 11 recent drawings created by Veronica while she was a resident artist at Bundanon Trust in New South Wales Australia. Veronica submitted an application last year to be represented by The Nevica Project and it has been pure bliss to work with her. She is constantly creating, has great energy and generates an aura of professionalism with all aspects of her career.

This exhibition features 17 marvelous pieces of pottery. I have been watching Kenyon’s work evolve over the past few years and I am so impressed with where he is at in his career. We asked him to consider being a part of The Nevica Project and he agreed to set aside some of his best pieces from each firing of the last six months. This show is an examination of some of his best work!

Do not hesitate to connect to www.thenevicaproject.com and have a look into the different galleries. Once you find a Artwork that you like, you can send an email in order to get the price and the link to place an order.

SVYTURYS2

Here is an amazing video made for Svyturys beer. the idea is to connect the watch world and the fact that it takes time to make a good beer. Interesting bridge between 2 worlds not that simple to connect.

SVYTURYS Extra | TVC from KORB on Vimeo.

Sophisticated and fragile clock mechanism narrates story about time, which is required for the perfect beer to be born. Each layer of luxurious clock symbolizes the key stages of brewing. It all starts with the golden barley harvest and ripe hops. Later we find ourselves in the sea side town where brewing tradition has been carried on for many years. Finally all highly polished layers spread out revealing the result of this journey. It’s about time – glowing bottle of beer, crafted in its own time.

Why Social media will evolve or… die.

Reading Time: 6 minutes

Since the invention of the steam power engine, internet might be one of the biggest invention of the 20th century that changed the world in a way that things would never be the same. And the world got hit by a second wave called Social Media. Today Social Media is a trendy and big topic. But did you know that if Social Media does not evolve fast, it might die one day? At least the way we know it today.

Dead_Twitter

2003, everything started

When in August 2003, Myspace launched its platform, they could not see how the world would evolve towards a higher degree of relationship interactivity. Even when Facebook was launched in february 2004, they would never imagine to reach 900 million registered users 8 years later.

Today the Socia Media Era is well establish and even companies do not wonder if they should go for it or not but how should they play it. When it comes to statistics, Social Media becomes larger than a lifetime. In average in one year:

  • We will share more than 400 pieces of content on Facebook
  • spend 23 minutes a day on Twitter
  • check in 563 times on Foursquare
  • upload 196 hours o videos on Youtube

In the world we count 2.8 billion social profiles all platforms blended. Blogs are also very important. There are more than 70 million blogs on WordPress and 39 million on Tumblr. 4 out of 5 internet users check regularly a social platform and almost 50% of them have shared brand-related content. From the professional side:

  • 75% of companies now use Twitter
  • 40% of CEO’s label Social Media as a high priority
  • 90% of communication agencies will focus on Facebook Advertising in 2012.

Everybody is social

So 2012 will be Social or not. 🙂 But if we take a good look on how people interact on social media, we can see that things are not so obvious. When we know that only 3% of internet users are responsible for almost 70% of the content published, we realize that most of the time we are just reviewers, watchers or readers. So we spend a lot of time online socializing, sharing, liking, commenting, retweeting or just consulting our profiles and pages. We cumulate more and more friends, followers, readers and fans. Can we be friend with the entire world? Facebook has now 900 million users. Can we all be friends?

socialmediaimage

So what happened with the 1990’s idea of Global village? The rise of internet and the democratization of technology brought us from the idea of Global village towards the concept of Global theater, in which we put on stage our lives. These lives are seen by dozens or even hundreds of friends simultaneously.

We spend more and more time checking what our friends status are, what are they doing, watching, sharing, saying rather than interacting with them. So instead of opening the social possibilities of a person, the social networks tend to generate a global monolog and the relationships can be summarized by a one way process. We miss so much of socialization time that fortunately for the users, the machines tell people what you do: “Bob likes this page”, “Janet shared a link”… we do not have enough time to say these messages ourselves as we are too busy in checking all our friends status :-(. Do we have too much “friends”?

socialmedia

I think the idea of Global village, or citizen of the world does not mean that we want to be friends with the entire world. It means that we have friends all over the planet. Which is a very different idea.

Because most of social networks believes the contrary, we attend to a both simplification and standardization of the networks. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc… became so global that there are few and few free room for customization and personal self-expression. What is global “politically correct”? Hard to determine. So everything that becomes a little borderline (based on what???) is squeezed from the wires.

Less is more

The future of social media will evolve towards a smaller scale. The social giants like Facebook and Twitter will become more and more global social dashboards in which companies and people will run their businesses or local communities. We will limit our friends and probably segment our friends throughout the specific networks rather than having everybody in the same bag. Eg: Family on Facebook, friends on Twitter and Tumblr and professional relationships on LinkedIn.

Can we follow the life of hundreds of friends? No we cannot as w cannot take 100 phone calls at the same time. So the idea will be to be more focused, to choose your themes and probably socialize via labels, topics or even centre of interests.

What are the wishes of people for the future of social networks? Social Media will be:

  • exclusively mobile
  • very personal
  • a non-brands land
  • creating new opportunities
  • simple to use
Facebook becomes more and more the standard but its reign will not last. Let’s remember history.
  • 1998, everybody fears the monopoly of Microsoft because of the connection Internet Explorer – the operating system. Today? no more.
  • 2000, Time Warner and AOL merge. Monopoly of the web? Today no more.
  • 2007, Google is accused of web monopoly because 70% of web searches comes from Google tools. Today? Social Media changed the face of search.
  • End of 2012, Facebook will approach 1 billion users… the beginning of the end?

mobile-social-networking

If we have a close look on online trends within the next 5 years what can we say?
  • the next 100 million users will be mobile users
  • Online and Off-line experiences will be linked
  • Social networks will solve searches that Search engines cannot
  • Brands will use Social networks for Customer service activities rather than advertising purposes
  • People wants to be part of the content, not only read it but being the hero!
So we can see that today’s social networks are not adapted to these previous topics and will need to evolve… or die trying.

The Grande Seconde Off-centered by Jaquet Droz

0
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Each time that Jaquet Droz presents a new timepiece, the “time” is for excellence ! One of the legendary fingerprints of the Swiss brand is the Grande Seconde Off-centered.

The radiance of gold, a noble material that has served our craftsmen well for three centuries. The strength of the flame, the secret to producing ultra-fine powders to make our unique dials of Grand Feu enamel. A wealth of meticulous skills and techniques perpetuated and reinvented by Jaquet Droz, model after model. The hand of the craftsman, the most precious tool available to the Manufacture, familiar with each gesture and the value of time. All of the master artisans who, in the seclusion of their workshops in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, created the horological masterpiece.

GRANDE-SECONDE_-OFF_CENTERED

GRANDE SECONDE OFF-CENTERED IVORY ENAMEL

With the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Ivory Enamel, Jaquet Droz combines classic watchmaking tradition with the imagination that has become a house trademark. A milestone in the history of the Manufacture, the Grande Seconde features two dials that, intertwined, form the number eight, a house leitmotif. One dial indicates the hours and minutes, the other tracks the passing of the sixty seconds in a minute. The size of the seconds hand and the incredible fineness of its profile evoke the myriad opportunities lying dormant in each passing minute. They are saluted by the elegance and graphic interest of this timepiece, whose dials and winding stem have been repositioned to give this watch a new look. The decorative motif, an artistic interpretation of mechanical gears, sets off the ivory hue of the Grand Feu enamel and the radiance of the red gold case. Finally, the winding stem at four o’clock has always intrigued aficionados.

GRANDE SECONDE OFF-CENTERED IVORY ENAMEL

For the proud owner, to touch or feel the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Ivory Enamel is to personally encounter the Jaquet Droz philosophy whereby the human experience of passing time should be marked by excellence, beauty and originality.

Alessi, Master of Design.

0
Reading Time: 3 minutes

In the Design world, Italians are for ever masters. Many italian brands just brought to the world brilliant creations. One of these brands is Alessi, master of design since 1921.

In the right heritage of Italian industrial design, Alessi put on stage several designers creations until today. Famous designers and architects such as Philippe Starck, Alessandro Mendini and Ettore Sottsass have collaborated with Alessi, leaving their marks on the brand. Some examples of internationally recognized Alessi design objects include kettles by Michael Graves (1985) and Richard Sapper (1983) and the Phillipe Starck Juicy lemon squeezer (1990).

Ice-Interiors-Alessi-juicer

Since 2006, the Alessi product range has been divided into 3 sub-brands: “Officina Alessi”, “Alessi” and “A di Alessi”. The brand “OFFICINA ALESSI” features products that are more refined, expensive, experimental and innovative, with small production runs and limited editions. The brand “A di ALESSI” presents what we call “democratic” design; the best in design at an affordable price. The brand “ALESSI” expresses the finest in largescale industrial production in the houseware sector; both in terms of the quality of manufacturing and design. These brands do not possess independent identities, but rather reflect three different expressions of the same corporate identity.

Alessi is an industrial research laboratory in the field of design, inheriting from great movements of the past such as the British Arts & Crafts, the Austrian Wiener Werkstaette and the German Bauhaus. These collaborations have brought together poetry, creativity, culture, vision, sincerity, modernity and design excellence like no other. Alessi decided to offer its skills in design management and its vision of design as an overall creative discipline to companies working with products that are far removed from the line of products. These companies are highly specialized in their technological and distribution fields that, Alessi thinks, could create truly new items conceived for the evolved public of the twenty-first century.

The most important partners are:
Fiat (cars – PandaALESSI),
Foster (sinks and hobs – LaCucinaALESSI),
Henkel (household cleanliness),
Laufen (bathroom – IlbagnoALESSI),
Mitsubishi Pencil (pens),
Oras (taps and fitting – LaCucinaALESSI),
Seiko (watches – ALESSIWatches),
Seimens (phones – IlTelefonoALESSI),
Valcucine (kitchen fornitures – LaCucinaALESSI).

Alessi creations became part of the history of Design. Many elements are now part of different museums in the world like the MoMa in New York, The Victoria ad Albert museum in London or the Triennale of Milano.

Today you can find a very extensive collection directly on the Brand website:
