4G, only two letters for a big change

4g logoA part the fact Marketers will be able to come up with new names, the 4G is definitely a cutting edge  matter. Why ? Simply because we will be finally able to watch video in good conditions on the phone network. Today, even Youtube at the maximum of 3G network is blurry and not fluid. Basically instead of having a 384 Kbps download and 129 Kbps upload, the 4G can receive a 100Mbps download on the move and almost a Gigabite in a static position. What this means ? Well, we all be able to download a complete DVD in one minute! Crazy right ? So 4G will wide open the doors of IP telephony, streamed multimedia, ultra-broadband Internet access and gaming services. Right now different multimedia providers are developing TV channels only for mobile devices and soon Mobile advertising will become a great business. Companies like ESPN, Fox and NBC mobile are already developing content adapted to mobile phones. With the arrival of high tech phones like the next iphone generations and other iPads, we might reconsider the entire mobile content offer. Mobile advertising, mobile e-commerce or m-commerce start being a reality, not only in terms of users but also in terms of million dollars. Check the link here for NBC mobile

Jimi Hendrix, the new idol ?

We all remember Benicio del Toro as Che Guevara on the epic movie of El Comandante’s life. We now wonder which icon, which symbol will be used. I would bet for Jimi Hendrix. In deed, we all look for a hero. But this hero can not be created by marketing, it must be a true hero, a true legend.
Jimi Hendrix Experience 2010

A few years ago we got Jimmy Morrison, Gandhi, Jesus Christ himself, Mandela… So now who is the next one ? Which Rebel should we rediscover, and especially the below 20 years old ? I say Jimi Hrendrix. Why ?

1- Because everyboby is talking more and more about him
2- Because they remastered this year the Jimi Hendrix Experience album
3- There is a Revival 2010 tour about it with several famous guitarists
4- Because he is a true Rebel.
5- 70’s are always back!

So, for all these reasons and also because I love Jimi Hendrix, I want to bet that soon, we will see his life adapted to the cinema, lots of DVD’s of his mythicals concerts (Woodstock?) and then a TV serie.
Who should play Hendrix in a movie ?

The super star of all rock guitarists, Slash, is back. Today 44 years old but the same mystic energy. Remember him, he was (or is still?) the former guitarist of the legendary group Guns N Roses.

The new album is called with a great simplicity : Slash.

13 new songs with several features : Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Chris Cornel but also Fergie (from the Black Eyed Peas) and Adam Levine (Maroon5). The first song is called By the Sword. It features singer Andrew Stockdale from the Wolfmothers.

“I just got to that point where I actually needed to do something on my own,” Slash declared to Reauters this week. “It’s one of the few things that I hadn’t done in my musical career.” We hope it is as good as we imagine. Already available since the 2nd of April 2010. LA

France Prix du Parfum 2010… some surprises!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Grand prix du Parfum 2010Last week in France, there was the french perfumery oscars, previously called FIFI awards (and still in other countries) and now Prix du Parfum. French must always find a difference…

The 2 most prestigious prices are Best Feminine and Masculine fragrance of the year. The winners not only get a great buzz but win a advertisinig page in Marie-Claire magazine.

This year, it was the first year that the competition was opened to public votes. So anyone could vote. Were there any differences with the past years…. Oh yeah.

The oscar for Best Feminine fragrance of the year was given to Ricci Ricci, the latest feminine fragrance of Nina Ricci. Modern version of a fresh and sweet Cat woman.

Jamais le dimanche, Ego FactoBut the big surprise came on the Best Masculine Fragrance of the year. Most of Professionals would vote for Dolce&Gabanna, perhaps Diesel… but the public voted for JAMAIS LE DIMANCHE. Translated into “Never on Sundays. This incredible masculine fragrance belongs to a young and creative brand called Ego Facto. The brand was created last year by creative olfactive guru Pierre Aulas. He dedicated all his young career at the service of the most beautiful brands (Chloe, Balenciaga, Thierry Mugler, Pucci…). After years of olfactive creation in the shadows, Pierre Aulas proposes a collection of 7 fragrances, or should I say 7 egos… Perfumes are about personality and more, about our own Ego. Congratulations to Ego Facto, David defeated Goliath once again. True creation defeated pure marketing… That gives us hope.

Henri Rousseau, Painter of Jungle…

At Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland, there is one of the most astonishing exhibitions about Henri Rousseau artwork. It is the first time, for years, someone gathered so many master pieces from the “Douanier”. 39 paintings from the artist. The commissioners for the exhibition are Christopher Green and Philippe Buttner. This one wrote an article on Le Monde  last month about the incredible collection.

Henri Julien Félix Rousseau was born in May 21st 1844 and died in September 2nd 1910 in Paris. He is more than a Pionnier, Henri Rousseau could be considered as a Rebel with a cause! Being totally against the classical influence of the 18th Century, he considered himself as a Post-impressionist painter in a Naive or primitive manner. His speciality : painting incredible jungle landscapes and life scenes… It is an extraordinary work for someone who never went to a real jungle. Why this ? Some people say he did not have enough money for the travel. I would say he did not want to compare the jungle landscapes coming from his imagination to the real ones. He would be too afraid to be disappointed and then loose all inspiration.

He is worldwide known as “The Douanier’ because during his young days he worked as a customs officer.

Since his first public appearence, he always exhibited in the Salon des Indépendants. This Salon was created in Paris in 1884 (When Rousseau was born 🙂 ) and the main concept was : “No Jury, no awards”. Basically, art for art. All trends in art of the early 20th century were first displayed and widely discussed there.

During the exhibition I saw most of Rousseau Master pieces, here my prefered ones.

I need to start with the one which makes me dream and dream : The Snake Charmer, 1907.

Rousseau, Serpent Charmer

Something totally hypnotic and almost narcotic. A luxurious beauty lost in a tremendous rich and nocturne landscape. I think the Snake charmer also charms the spectator… magic.

The Hungry Lion throws Itself on the Antelope, 1905

This painting was presented for the first time at Le Salon des Independents in 1905. Close by there was the work of the young Henri Matisse. Rousseau’s Lion may even has influenced the name “Fauve” among Fauvistes…

All of this and much more is at Fondation Beyeler in Basel until May 9th 2010.

Pergola at Palais de Tokyo in Paris

1916: Le Corbusier builds a « Villa Turque » (Turkish Villa), the Villa Schwob, flanked by a pergola, in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). Some years later, he publishes photos of it in L’Esprit Nouveau. On the ground, in front of the villa, a white smear betrays retouching: the pergola has disappeared. Less than a century later, the Iraqi journalist Muntazer Al-Zaïdi throws his shoes at George W. Bush’s head.

Poltergeists are on the agenda at PERGOLA. Against the background of a haunted modernity, silhouettes of erased lives demand restitution: Swiss tavern lanterns cast a gloom over the museum space, the ventilation shafts bring back good memories of monumental architecture, the melancholy of the Renaissance seeps into this no man’s land, pneumatic dispatch breaches communication…. In the public spaces, the forsaken demand equal treatment in the art works by Charlotte Posenenske. This is the opportunity to discover for the first time the works of this important German artist, alongside the art objects of Valentin Carron, Raphael Zarka, Serge Spitzer, and the large shoe of the Iraqi Laith Al-Amiri.
