Its location also means that there is a range of unique and delicious dishes to sample while you’re there, with Dodecanese culture taking its own slant on Greek cuisine to create specialities such as ouzo-dipped grilled octopus – a must-try. Below, discover four of our favourite spots to explore when cruising the Dodecanese islands.

Top destinations for a Dodecanese Greek island yacht charter

Rhodes

Rhodes

This is the largest and most famous island of the Dodecanese. There are so many historic landmarks to explore on a Rhodes yacht charter: Rhodes’ entire old city was named a UNESCO world heritage site in 1988, and you shouldn’t leave without seeing the medieval Palace of the Grand Master.

Visit in the summer to experience one of the vibrant music festivals hosted here, while a Rhodes yacht charter at any time of year offers the chance to enjoy the energetic nightlife that pulses through the city like a current. If you prefer to spend your holiday indulging in pure relaxation then fear not, as Rhodes also has long stretches of golden sands, as well as secluded, romantic coves.

Kos

Kos

Wander the streets of Kos and you will discover typical whitewashed houses with blue doors and bright bougainvillea, while crystal clear waters lap up against the edge of the island, making it feel like a true Grecian paradise.

As another sought-after destination for sandy beaches and an exciting nightlife, you may be surprised to learn that Kos was once home to one of the biggest markets in the ancient world. Today, there are plenty of historic sites to see, such as the Ancient Agora and the Hellenistic Gymnasium; the Archaeological Museum with its statue of Hippocrates also makes for a fascinating excursion from your Kos yacht charter.

Leros

Leros

Leros is traditionally known for its sponge fishing industry, however those on a Greek islands yacht charter may prefer to enjoy its many breath-taking beaches instead. Imbued with a strong sense of Greek culture and community, Leros’ charming fishing villages give way to blissful sands. Alinda Beach is our favourite – a glorious stretch of sand boasting transparent waters, powder-white sand and several romantic coves ideal for private picnics.

Meanwhile for a more adventurous experience, head to Xerokambos Beach, where there are plenty of hidden grottos and the water is crystal clear. Offering visibility up to an impressive 45 metres, this is a great spot for divers, even boasting a dedicated area for diving and snorkelling.

Patmos

Patmos

Offering a change of pace for your luxury Greece yacht charter, Patmos is known for its stunning capital Chora, built around the dramatic Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in the 12th century, which today still boasts terraces and a walkaway, as well as a decorated chapel and an extensive library. In the 16th and 17th century, wealthy families developed mansions here, and these properties contrast beautifully with the typical Aegean aesthetic. Don’t miss the Cave of the Apocalypse, where legend has it Saint John was inspired to write the Book of the Apocalypse.

Patmos also plays host to many religious festivals and feasts and offers pretty cobbled alleyways as well as breathtaking sea views.
