What I do like about the fragrance is the way Byredo has captured the Rose theme. It is by far one of the most standard themes you can find in perfumery and still this fragrance is modern, fresh and passionately deep. There is an interesting olfactory tension between the sparkling of fresh notes and the richness of the floral base undertones. The olfactory story starts with a dazzling freshness of pink peppercorn that brings elegance and energy to the fragrance. The heart of the fragrance is a true ballet between a wild and rich Turkish Rose playing with fruity notes of raspberry and white ambers. The usage of the Rose absolute triggers a sensorial experience made of sensuality and deepness. It is a very beautiful Rose.

The Rose of No Man’s Land is a very beautiful name with a great meaning. During the First World War, Red Cross nurses would risk their lives at the front lines in order to save soldiers lives. They were considered as angels who would bring a last hint of hope during dark moments. A music publisher called Leo Feist published a song called in French: “La Rose souls les boulets”, with the french lyrics by Louis Delemarre. It was a true ode to those women who never hesitated to brave bullets and canon fire to save other people’s lives.

There is a rose that grows no-man’s land
and it’s wonderful to see
though its sprayed with tears, it will live for years
In my garden of memory
It’s the one red rose the soldier knows
It’s the work of the Master’s hand
Neath the war’s great curse stands a red cross nurse
She’s the rose of no-man’s land
