The shadow projected on the clock dial would follow the sun position and so would turn around to the right side. Probably by…

While Samsung, Peeble and Motorola were driving the way, there was little incidence in terms of watch-making trends. Since Apple brought to live its project, all watch brands are going crazy about the theme of digital watches. During the SIHH and soon at BASELWORLD, we will see dozens of brands launching their smartwatch. From Montblanc, to Kenneth Cole, Frédéric Constant, Tag Heuer, Swatch or Vector… all launching their connected watch. Well it is not that cool anymore. Apple Watch, the hurricaine in the tech world In the world where wearables are multiplying like flies, is a smartwatch still something cool to do? My feeling is that Apple brought a certain doubt in the minds of watchmakers in terms of competition and success. Based on their reputation in how they enter the market place (remember their mobile…

The concept of a Skeleton watch is an interesting challenge for watchmakers. All of the moving parts are visible through either the front of the watch, the back of the watch or a small cut outlining the dial. True ‘skeletonization’ also includes the trimming away of any non-essential metal on the bridge, plate, wheel train or any other mechanical part of the watch, leaving…

Reading Time: 3 minutesRichard Mille is a brand about true watchmaking. Before Christmas we have a little window over the 2015 new collections and here is the review of the RM 33-01 automatic watch. Richard Mille, a story of watchmaking After some marketing studies in Besançon- France, Richard Mille joined a small company called Finhor in 1974. It was his debuts in watchmaking. In 1981, the company was bought by Matra and Richard Mille became the manager for the watch business. Stainless Steel, much more precious than you think for watches.

Stainless Steel, much more precious than you think for watches.

Reading Time: 6 minutesOne of the most iconic material for a watch is definitely the Stainless steel used essentially in the watch case and the watch bracelet. Most of people know what is Stainless steel about, but did you know that there are several different types of steel used in watch-making? How Watchmakes came to use Stainless Steel and how different is one from another? Stainless steel, an amazing invention, as well as a great mistake Some inventions are planned, others happen by chance. When in 1913 Harley Brearley was trying to improve the resistance of gun barrels, he would not imagine that his work would change the way we would use steel in the 20th century and beyond. He was working at that time for Firth Research Laboratories in the UK. He came up with the idea that if he would make an alloy of steel and a certain quantity of chromium…

Georges Favre-Jacot chose the city of Le Locle to found a manufacture named “Fabrique Billodes.” At this time, large numbers of watchmakers worked at home in various scattered workshops with no direct links to each other. Thus, it was the first to build on the territory of Switzerland spacious…
