Vintage Wedding Planning 101: 6 Easy Steps to Pull Off This Theme

0
Reading Time: 5 minutes

If there is one wedding trend that is here to stay, it would be vintage-themed ones. There is something about this theme that is just enticing and irresistible to couples. It could be the romantic nostalgia it evokes, the fashionable attires, or the timeless aesthetics. Whatever it is, vintage weddings will always be popular and a favorite.

Contrary to popular belief, a vintage wedding is not limited and bound to just one set of visuals and presentation. Vintage weddings can draw inspiration from different bygone eras and periods in history. In turn, couples can utilize this versatility and cash in artistic freedom to come up with the perfect wedding program that will represent their personalities, preferred ambiance, and aesthetics.

If you’re at a loss on how to organize your very own vintage wedding, you’ve come to the right site. In this article, we gathered six easy and helpful wedding tips that you can use as a guide to starting your planning journey. Read on and get inspired!

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 1: Choose a specific period in time

Wedding-planning-2

As mentioned above, vintage weddings are not just about one specific moment in history. The theme covers several periods in time, each with its distinct brand of fashion, music, and visuals. There’s the roaring ‘20s with its signature flapper fashion and iconic art deco, the ‘40s with its utilitarian chic trademark, the ‘50s with its iconic pop culture, the ‘60s with its rebellious rock ‘n roll atmosphere, the ‘70s with its flower power movement, and the ‘80s with its neon and glam rock character.

Whichever era you’ll pick, make sure that it’ll embody your and your partner’s personalities and inclinations. It should be something that you’ll have fun organizing and will let you get the most creative.

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 2: Pick a palette

wedding-planning-ideas

Once you have chosen a vintage period to inspire your wedding, the next step is to choose a color palette. These colors will be the basis of your decor and overall visual presentation. A 1920s-inspired vintage wedding is all about shades of champagne, dark green, grey, and gold. Think of the movie The Great Gatsby. If you want a free-spirited and laidback affair like those in the ‘70s, bold and fun colors like yellows, oranges, and browns should do the trick. For a retro wave celebration based on the ‘80s, loud and neon colors like pinks, greens, and blues are the way to go.

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 3: Find a vintage wedding-worthy venue

wedding-planning-guides

Your wedding venue should complement your theme that is why you should scout for a location that will embody the period you’re trying to recreate. A roaring ‘20s wedding is all about the good life and luxury so a ballroom bright with chandeliers or a mansion with a grand staircase would be an ideal setting.

A ‘60s rock n’ roll wedding would ideally be held at a historic music call or a groovy hotel, a ‘70s-inspired nuptials would look best at an outdoor setting, and an ‘80s party calls for a unique location like a diner or even a skating rink.

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 4: Bring on the visuals

wedding-planner-guide

Now that you have the perfect venue, it’s time to bring on the visuals! Vintage periods have their signature looks and feel. An ‘80s wedding is something lighter and more laidback, with neon signs, kitschy tablescapes, and off-the-wall décor. A ‘60s wedding is about daring patterns, mismatched looks, and pop art. Details like disco balls, carpets, and vinyl records would be great additions to the decorations for this specific wedding theme.

Whichever theme you’ll be going for, it is recommended that you still add a touch of modernity to your visuals, more like a fresh take on these well-loved periods. Something that will catch your guests by surprise.

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 5: Flashback fashion

wedding-planning-top-ideas

It’s not a vintage wedding without complementing and gorgeous attires. Even within a period, there are plenty of fashion influences you can draw inspiration from. You can also wear actual vintage clothing (handed down from your family) or you can have a modern-made one look and feel like the old thing. Having said that, the wedding party should look the part, too.

Your bridesmaids would look phenomenal in dark green bridesmaid dresses at a roaring ‘20s wedding. You girls would also look quirky and pretty in polka dot numbers if you’re having ’50s-inspired nuptials. If you’re all about the ‘70s, flowy floral frocks for your bridesmaids are the route to go.

Aside from fashion and the dresses, the hair, shoes, makeup, and accessories should also ideally complement the whole theme.

Vintage Wedding Planning Tip 6: Match the theme with music

A vintage wedding is not complete without accompanying music and entertainment. This will set the mood for the whole affair as if transporting you and your guests to the bygone years. You can create a playlist from your favorite era and have it played throughout the wedding. You can also hire a live musician to play the songs for you.

Happy planning!

Stepping Up Your Kitchen Game: How to Cook Like a Chef

0
Reading Time: 7 minutes

Ever watched TV shows like Masterchef, Chef’s Table and Iron Chef and wished you could cook like the pros? Well, while the seasoned chefs who appear on these shows are among the best of the best, at what they do. There are plenty of things you can do to step up your kitchen game.

From preparation and cooking techniques, to seasoning and presentation, here are some hints and tips that show you how to cook like a chef. Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be well on the way to creating gourmet food to be proud of.

1. Dress the part

Ok, well this isn’t strictly necessary, but if you want to cook like a professional chef there is no harm in looking like one.

While donning a chef’s jacket and pants might seem a bit over the top for some. If you want to channel your inner Sebastien Cassagnol, and get into an executive chef’s mindset, then there is no better way to do so.

2. Thoroughly prepare

Like with anything, the old adage ‘proper planning prevents poor performance’ very much applies to cooking. Before you start preparing any meal, read and re-read the recipe very carefully. This way you will have a clear understanding of what the process for making the dish actually entails.

Also, make sure that you have all the ingredients fully prepped in advance. Peel, wash and chop all meat, vegetables and herbs, and pour out required spices into separate small bowls, so they are ready to go.

That way, when it comes to using them in the recipe, you can stay focused on cooking and not become distracted by prepping.

3. Be precise with measurements

In any recipe, when it comes to measurements, it is important to follow them to the letter. This is because they have been designed with flavour profiles in mind to maximise taste and compliment the other ingredients.

Therefore, if a recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of chilli powder or parsley, make sure you put in exactly that amount as a starting point, and don’t just arbitrarily pour them in from their packets. This will ensure the integrity of the dish is preserved – though you can always modify it to your tastes a little later.

4. Know that the size of a cup varies

You’ll often see recipes advise you to put in ‘1 cup of….’. Well, a key thing to remember is that the size of a cup can vary, depending on the density of a particular ingredient.

Therefore, it is important to measure by weight whenever you can, as this will significantly reduce your potential for error when attempting to recreate a recipe.

5. YouTube is your friend!

Back in the day when following a recipe, you had to solely rely on a cookbook. Today though, YouTube has revolutionised how people prepare food. As they are able to watch videos whilst they cook.

This visual step-by-step tutorial is invaluable, as it shows you (often in real time) what your dish should look like. The beauty of watching YouTube videos on your device, whilst cooking, is that you can pause and rewind it at any time too.

6. Use a timer

Cooking can often be time critical. When frying a steak or a fish for instance, going even a minute or two over, (or under) the required time, can result in the food being undercooked or overcooked.

While this is something that is easy to do – we all get distracted every now and then – this situation is easily avoided by setting a timer on your phone.

That way as soon as the time is up, the notification will be your reminder to turn off, or over, or add new ingredients to the food you are preparing.

7. Don’t ignore flavour stuck on the pan

When putting seasoning in a dish, often some of it sticks to the pan. It is important to recognise this as flavour and therefore incorporate it back into the dish by deglazing the pan with a splash of water, alcohol, stock, vegetable juice or fruit.

Don’t waste the good thing you’ve started.

8. Embrace your oven

As a general rule, it is worth remembering that a pan that is unwatched on the stove, is more likely to burn than one that is in the oven. Therefore, until such time as your confidence in the kitchen grows, it is worth preparing a number of oven-based dishes.

Just be sure you are aware of the conversion temperatures between Fahrenheit and Celsius, and keep a regular eye on the pan you put in the oven, to ensure it doesn’t become charred in any places.

9. Don’t dilute or kill the flavour

As tempting as it might be, don’t deviate from a recipe by trying to stir in ingredients like butter or flour that might dilute or kill the flavour.

If these ingredients aren’t in the original recipe don’t add them. Even though the thought of a creamier texture might appeal to you, do you really want to create this at the expense of the dish’s intended flavour?

10. Season your food

Whenever you watch shows like Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules, one of the biggest pet peeves the judges have is that the food is insufficiently seasoned. So, make sure you don’t fall into this trap.

Seasoning is all about enhancing flavours and so it is worth taking the time to experiment with different levels of salt and pepper to work out where the sweet spot is for you.

Once you find it, you should have no problem repeating it every subsequent time you cook.

11. Taste as you go

One thing you should always do when you cook is taste the food. After all, how do you know if it will be any good if you don’t try it whilst its being prepared?

Tasting the food enables you to work out if anything seems a little off. It also allows you to adjust certain ingredients, such as the seasoning, to maintain its course of perfection.

When doing this, just be mindful of the potential impact of adding later ingredients to the dish which might change the flavour profile.

For instance, it might not be a good idea to add more salt early on, if you will be adding capers, anchovies, pickles or parmesan to your creation later.

12. Presentation

There is a generally accepted view within the food industry that people eat with their eyes first. For this reason, it is very important to plate up your food as artistically as you can.

There are several ways to do this including creating height on the plate, decorating it with edible garnish and cutting the meat or vegetables into unusual shapes.

All of this adds a sense of theatre to your dish, which will have people salivating at the thought of tucking into it.

Final Thought

While it might take years of hard work, dedication and training to become a top Michelin-rated chef, there is no harm in aspiring to that – whatever your level of proficiency in the kitchen.

The tips outlined above are a good starting point towards stepping up your kitchen game and should ensure you soon start making delicious gourmet meals, as a matter of course.

In the meantime, however, if this seems a little daunting, and you would like someone else to cook up a gastronomic feast for you, check out an option like Gathar here.

Comfortable clothes are also required that will allow you to move that little more freely.

Make it convenient for you

Have you ever joined a gym at the beginning of the year and found that just finding the time to go is a bit of a pain? Well, it’s the same with yoga. If you’re committing to going to a class 10 miles from home, it’s going to be much trickier to find the time than it is compared to doing it around the corner from work, or even at home.

Make practising yoga convenient and suited to your life, so that means where you do it, how frequently you do it and for how long.

0
Reading Time: 4 minutes

1. Updo

https://www.instagram.com/p/CduLI58JLFN/

It’s no secret that the updo is a timeless and versatile hairstyle. It’s also highly adaptable, so you can experiment with different variations of updos to pick the one that looks best on you.

You have countless options to try this season, from a low, pulled-back updo with twists and curls to a looser style with face-framing pieces. The best part? Updos will keep your hair out of your way — perfect when you’re wearing a dress with sequins or any other outfit that could snag your strands. Plus, there’s a style to suit any face shape.

Got thin hair? Consider adding more volume and thickness to your updo with hair extensions. Human hair extensions are your best option, as they look entirely natural and blend beautifully with your hair, so they’ll be undetectable when you’re wearing it pulled back.

2. Braids

Braids have always been a popular hairstyle for holiday and Christmas parties, and for good reason. Braided styles make your hair more manageable and tame flyaways while channeling a romantic vibe that suits the season perfectly.

From a French braid to Fishtail braids and everything in between, you can try different variations of braided hairstyles to find the one that best suits you.

And if you already have a braided hairstyle, you may want to try a twisted braid! Simply pull the braids on the top of your head and twist them into a bun. Use a few hairpins to secure the bun, and you’re good to go!

Or, maybe you want to add braids to other hairstyles, so your hair looks a bit more dressed up this festive season. For instance, you can try braiding parts of your hair into a low ponytail while leaving some hair pieces around your face for a soft effect. Next, enfold a section of the ponytail around the elastic band to conceal it.

3. Vintage Waves

Vintage waves are among the most iconic holiday hairstyles. The look is sleek and elegant, and complements any holiday attire, whether it’s a cozy sweater or formal dress.

If you’re looking to add a little extra sparkle to your style, consider adding a minimalist jeweled headband to your vintage waves. You can also pin one side of the waves down while allowing the other side to flow with fuller waves.

4. Mermaid Locks

Mermaid hair is yet another perfect style for the festival season. Typically featuring accent pieces in a different color, this look is versatile and fun. Experiment with different highlights to achieve a gorgeous sunkissed vibe, or try coloring some strands with pastel shades for a pop of color.

If your hair lacks length or volume, you may want to use Remy hair extensions to pull off flowing mermaid locks. Just be sure to buy hair wefts from trusted brands like Zala hair extensions to get that perfect look.

5. Low Pony, Loose Waves

Looking for a fancy style that doesn’t require much effort to achieve? Try a low pony with loose waves! Create a middle part and use a curling iron to add some loose waves to your locks. Leave some strands free at the front for a flattering face frame. Pull your locks into a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Add a scarf scrunchie to the ponytail, and you’re all set to head out to your holiday event.

6. Half-Up, Half-Down Space Buns

While space buns have been around for quite some time now, you may want to try an updated, chic version of this style – the half-up, half-down version. This variation of space buns can be a fun and unexpected twist on traditional half-up, half-down styles. Rock the look for a New Year’s Eve party or your friend’s holiday bash.

4 Reasons to Shake Up Your Personal Routine

0
Reading Time: 4 minutes

Routines offer excellent ways to promote wellness and health benefits through structure and organization. Routines can help you to maintain better stress levels to improve your mental health, lower anxiety, and give you more time to relax. A routine is also vital in times of uncertainty and unpredictability as it reduces the need to make daily decisions and helps you identify which tasks you need to take part in to maintain a healthy life.

Even if you don’t thrive on a strict schedule, having a routine will ensure that you do things well and continually get better. It’s not enough to have daily routines. You may also need a weekly routine for something that you occasionally do, like grocery shopping or exercising. Shake up your routine and get ready to reap the following benefits.

1. Increases Energy

Healthy eating is one of the tried and true advice to keep your energy levels high. When you switch to a healthy diet, you’ll notice a big difference in your energy level and increased stamina. Eat a healthy diet comprising proteins, fats, and a variety of carbohydrates. Put more emphasis on vegetables, healthy oils, and whole grains. Make sure you also take a multivitamin daily to get the minerals and vitamins you need.

The secret to increasing your energy levels is eating small and frequent meals and snacks instead of having three large meals per day. Limit your alcohol intake and try not to become dependent on caffeine. Water is also essential to your body, so drink plenty of it.

2. Increases Productivity

Establishing a routine can have numerous benefits to your productivity levels. Usually, productivity follows increased energy levels, especially if you plan your day well. Regular habits and a daily routine support cognitive functions and may free you up to be more creative. A routine allows you to spend less mental energy on repetitive tasks to help you focus more on creativity for more complex tasks.

A routine can help you reduce wasting time and manage it better. With a routine, you’ll know what you want to do each day and the time frames in which you have to perform specific tasks. A manager’s daily schedule can help you distribute resources more efficiently, prioritize, and potentially transform your team.

3. Increases Happiness

When your routine is about self-care and well-being, it can also increase your overall happiness. A pattern can help you gain more control of your life and increase the likelihood of success. Shake up your routine towards healthy habits linked to increased confidence and happiness, and watch yourself improve your sleep quality, become more productive, and reduce stress.

Another advantage of adopting a particular routine is that it enables you to work when you need to and relax when you feel burnt out. With an appropriate routine, you can achieve an excellent work-life balance, which can make you happier and more productive. In summary, routine helps you to get all your work done while enjoying living your life. Therefore, choose your habits well and fill your days with healthy routines to make you more productive and happy.

4. Increases Engagement

Routines and procedures can set the tone for your engagement with others. Through engagement, routines create structures to promote physical, mental, and emotional health. The absence of routine can cause stress and feelings of not being able to manage yourself. Lack of a routine could lead to problems with managing stress and could put you at risk of conditions such as heart diseases, negatively affecting your overall health.

Drug addiction is associated with withdrawal and less engagement. As drinking or drug use worsens, you’ll realize that it takes more time away from the people you live with and could ultimately create an emotional distance between you and those you love. The good thing is that you can always get help from a drug rehab center in Florida.

Small Steps Towards Developing Routines

You can create your desired routine through small steps. You can devise a way to organize activities using a smartphone app or a timer. To achieve better sleep, consider choosing a regular time to go to bed and wake up.

Take part in physical activities like walking or riding a bike a few times a week, start a new hobby or reengage a past hobby, and keep an eye on essential activities that could be happening in the neighborhood like book clubs or social walking groups.

Wearing Mascara Daily? 10 Tips for Lash Care

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Mascara is one of the most commonly used cosmetics products today. Whether you’re trying to look awake for an early morning meeting or achieve a smokey eye for a night out, a few swipes of mascara can make all the difference.

However, wearing mascara daily can take its toll on your lashes. From clumping and flaking to brittle and dry lashes, there are several ways that mascara can damage your lashes.

Fortunately, there are some simple things you can do to minimize the damage and keep your lashes looking their best. Here are 10 simple tips for lash care:

1. Remove Your Makeup Every Night

This one seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many women forget to remove their mascara before they go to bed. Sleeping in your makeup can cause all sorts of problems for your skin, including clogged pores and breakouts. But it can also cause problems for your lashes. Mascara can dry out your lashes and make them more susceptible to breakage. So, be sure to remove your makeup every night before you go to bed!

2. Consider Lash Extensions

If you’re looking for an easy way to achieve long, full lashes without having to put on mascara every day, consider lash extensions! Lash extensions last 6-8weeks before needing to be replaced—so they’re perfect for special occasions or everyday wear. Just be sure to find a reputable lash technician who uses high-quality products; otherwise, you could end up with damaged or falling-out lashes.

But can you put mascara on lash extensions? Most lash technicians will recommend that you avoid putting mascara on lash extensions, as this can clump up the lashes and even cause them to fall out. However, if you absolutely must use mascara on your lash extensions, be sure to opt for a water-based formula that won’t dry or damage your lashes. Just make sure you do it gently, and avoid layering it on too heavily.

3. Choose a Good Mascara

Not all mascaras are created equal. Some are better than others at lengthening, thickening, or adding volume to your lashes. And some are better at staying put throughout the day (no one wants raccoon eyes!). Do some research to find a mascara that’s right for you and will help your lashes look their best.

4. Be Gentle When Applying Mascara

When you’re putting on mascara, be gentle! Yanking and tugging at your lashes will make them more likely to break. Take your time and be careful not to pull too hard on your lashes when applying or removing mascara.

5. Don’t Pump Your Mascara Wand

You might have been told that pumping your mascara wand will help prevent clumping or that it helps get more product on the brush. While the latter is true, and pretty sure we’ve all done it at some point, pumping dries out your mascara and makes it more likely to clump when you apply it to your lashes. Instead of pumping your wand, just swirl it around in the tube for an even coat of mascara.

6. Replace Your Mascara Every 3 Months

Mascara has a shelf life of about three months—after that, it starts to dry out and become less effective. It is also a breeding ground for bacteria, so it’s important to replace it regularly to avoid infection. Additionally, dried-out mascara can cause flakes and clumps, so, be sure to replace your mascara every few months.

7. Don’t Share Your Mascara Wand

A mascara wand is easily the most germ-infested cosmetic item there is, and when it comes to your eyes, you really don’t want any bacteria getting in there. Not only is it painful and irritating, but if you share your mascara wand with a friend or family member, you risk them catching something like pink eye from it. To avoid transmission of viruses, bacteria, and other nasties, keep your mascara wand to yourself.

8. Apply Mascara to Clean Lashes

This one is important! Make sure you remove any traces of makeup or dirt from your lashes before applying fresh mascara. Otherwise, you run the risk of trapping all that gunk underneath your new layer of mascara, which can lead to clumping and flaking.

9. Avoid Waterproof Formulas (if possible).

Waterproof mascaras are great for special occasions because they won’t budge, no matter what – but they’re not so great for everyday use. That’s because they’re typically much harder to remove than regular formulas and can end up doing more harm than good if left on for too long (see tip #1!). If you must use waterproof mascara daily, choose a gentle remover specifically designed for the task (we like coconut oil).

10. Use an Eyelash Conditioner

Just like your hair, your eyelashes need regular conditioning to stay healthy and strong. Look for an eyelash conditioner that contains nourishing ingredients like vitamin E or glycerin, and apply it nightly after removing your makeup.

So there you have it! Ten tips for taking care of your eyelashes and keeping them healthy. Follow these tips to keep your lashes looking their best, and you will be sure to have beautiful, long lashes for a long time to come!
