Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show was motor yacht AHPO. The 115m new build was put into the show by German superyacht builder Lurssen and had been the talk of the town since its arrival the day before the show commenced. The bespoke vessel was built to create an onboard atmosphere ideal for both family time and recreational activities.

Just some of motor yacht AHPO’s features include a full wellness area on the lower deck and a state-of-the art gym on the sky lounge. On the technological side, Lurssen was able to create a heat recovery system that reduces the amount of electrical power necessary to heat the pools, leading to lower emissions.

AHPO is a privately owned yacht but will be available for charter with superyacht brokerage Moran Yachts starting this winter in the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean in summer.

When asked about the company’s current success, Quantum founder John Allen said: “The zero speed is the key to everything. The absolute comfort of the clients and making a ship more comfortable is super critical.”

Being known for being at the forefront of innovation, Quantum also conducted an interview series with the biggest shipyards to discuss industry changes and the outlook on the future of yachting. The interview series will be available on Quantum’s social media outlets and website.

One of their latest projects has been the partnership with the renowned company Riva. The primary purpose of this collaboration is for Riva to become the icon of zero-emission luxury yachting. The process includes removing the boat’s engine and replacing it with ultra-compact high-performance axial flux engines, similar to the ones tested in high-density battery cells and aviation.

Interesting insights:

  • The charge lasts 3 hours for a speed of 25 knots
  • Time to full charge: 1h30
  • 13 t of CO2 saved per year

François Richard, CEO of Laneva Boats, said: “With the new protection of the environment regulations coming soon, we had to think of solutions.”

He added: “The Italian and Swiss Riva boat owners navigate on lakes most of the time, and they don’t necessarily want to change their cherished Riva boats. Some of them have been in their families for years. This new technology is ideal for them. They can keep their boats and continue to use them on lakes without polluting.”
