From this first collaboration came out creations like Mugler Cologne, Alien, Angel les Jardins d’Etoile, la part des Anges… Then came out other brands, and Pierre started working for Azzaro, Swarovski, Fendi, Pucci, L’Occitane, Jil Sander, Chloe, Roberto Cavalli, Davidoff or Balenciaga. Manifesto, success or not?

Manifesto, success or not?

Yves Saint Laurent Parfums is launching a new fragrance for women called Manifesto. We are not sure to understand everything. After the arrival (or should I say the return) of Hedi Slimane to Yves Saint Laurent, this is the second time we hear about the Brand. For the launch of its new fragrance for women, Manifesto claims a certain spirit of self-confidence, freedom and creativity. The concept itself is not new and at Saint Laurent we would probably prefer the total freedom of the Opium woman. What is original here is the game between art, color and femininity. There is also an interesting connection between make up and Fragrance, which was already the case with ELLE. In the advertising we can see the American actress Jessica Chastain. We all remember her from her roles in the Tree of Life (Ms O’Brian) and in some TV shows like ER or Veronica Mars….

La Vie est belle by Lancôme, nothing to report…

La Vie est belle by Lancôme, nothing to report…

I will not speak about the Lancôme new fragrance called La Vie est Belle by Lancôme.  The french brand is desperately looking for the next big hit after Trésor (1990). After Poême (1995), Miracle (2000), Attraction (2003), Hypnose (2005) and Magnifique (2008), now they are launching La Vie est belle (2012). I am not sure we will remember this one as probably we do not remember most of the ones in my above list.  By using Julia Roberts, they probably also expect to please the Tresor client (40 years and more) because I am not sure young women would remember her. The “Pretty woman” generation got old. Then what stroke me was some similitudes to Givenchy Ange ou Demon movie. Of course the Lancôme one is more politically correct but I found some interesting parallels with the dress, the decoration, some characters, scenario and camera moves. It is like if…

Celebrity fragrances, how much?

Celebrity fragrances, how much?

While in Europe we tend to think that Celebrity fragrances are not really a good business, you can ask the american industry. They have made millions of dollars with this new segment. Here some figures. The first ever celebrity fragrance to be a big hit was White Diamonds by Elisabeth Taylor with Elisabeth Arden group since 1991. Lately we got Glow by Jennifer Lopez in 2002. Only the first year it generated 60 million dollars of sales and still today it is on the top 10 most sold celebrity fragrances. And since then, many others tried some of them being a success for a long time. So here is the 2011 ranking of celebrity fragrances made by Forbes magazine: #1 White Diamonds by Elisabeth Taylor – 1991 54 million $ #2  Driven by Derek Jeter – 2010 27 million $ #3 Heat by Beyonce – 2010 21 million $ #4…

Dolce & Gabbana new fragrance video.

Dolce & Gabbana new fragrance video.

Dolce & Gabbana is launching via social media a new video to promote their men and women’s original fragrances. It was filmed in Sicily in the village of Erice and on beach of La Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro by Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. The 45-second video stars Laetitia Casta and her love interest played by American model and actor Noah Mills. It is set to “Città Vuota” by Mina. The overal ambiance displays a good mix between tradition and modernity and we can feel the scents of both fragrances in this movie.   Here the official advertising campaigns. I think Dolce & Gabbana is probably the sexiest fragrance brand in the industry. They really succeeded to build on the italian sex-appeal-way-of-life. :-). Connect to the official website to see more about it: http://www.dolcegabbana.com It is the Dolce Vitta, in a kind of “censured director’s cut”. Like it! LA   info sourced at…

Victorinox, innovative fragrances for men.

Victorinox, innovative fragrances for men.

Victorinox, the makers of the original Swiss Army Knife, has now 15 years in the making of fragrances. Already in 1997, with the launch of Swiss Army classic Eau de Toilette for men, they got the Perfumery international award for Best Design. Now, 15 years later, the Swiss company continues in its path of innovation in the masculine area by launching 2 amazing products: – Swiss Army Classic Icon EDT – Swiss Army Forest EDT SWISS ARMY CLASSIC ICON EAU DE TOILETTE In 2012, only the Swiss company Victorinox could launch such a Fragrance flacon: A Swiss Army Knife shape flacon. Almost as a celebration of 15 years of iconic Design in the Fragrance industry, Victorinox launched a special flacon for its Classic Eau de Toilette line. A perfect alliance between a best selling fragrance and an outstanding design. The flacon design reflects the legendary pocket knife. Its design incorporates the…

New Balenciaga Flora Botanica – disappointing

New Balenciaga Flora Botanica – disappointing

It is true that we cannot succeed everything, and with the launch of the new fragrance by Balenciaga – Flora Botanica – it is precisely the case. Basically we cannot understand why such a launch. Is Coty Inc, the owners of the Balenciaga fragrance license putting pressure on Balenciaga ? Or is it just “Ok, we got it wrong”. As we can see the new “egerie” is Kristen Stewart. And here already troubles start. Why her? She is the typical “non-active” girl, sulky and without too much energy. Finally the perfect victim of vampires :-). I am a little hard here, sorry. But essentially she is a cliché and that is what I criticize the most Balenciaga’s choice. After a magnificent Charlotte Gainsbourg, completely out of the mainstreams, they just go 360 degrees on the cliché-girl. The name now. FLORABOTANICA. Probably they tried to stick to a certain heritage and…

Zadig & Voltaire Tome 1 La Pureté for him

Zadig & Voltaire Tome 1 La Pureté for him

Zadig & Voltaire, the french fashion Brand is launching in this beginning of the year a new fragrance duo called Zadig & Voltaire Tome 1 La Pureté for Her and for Him. I got the opportunity to review the masculine version. The Brand was created in 1995 by Mr. Thierry Gillier, grand-son of André Gillier (co-founder of Lacoste). The Brand name, Zadig & Voltaire, is inspired by the Novel “Zadig, or The Book of Fate” written in 1747 by the french philosopher Voltaire. The main character of the novel inspired Mr. Gillier because of his charisma, modernity and bravery. The fashion Brand has products for women but also for men and even a children line. Zadig & Voltaire is well known for its cachemire with rock skulls in brodery, their tshirts and the mythic Touly bag. The creative universe of the Brand is quite broad as they have a Music…

Angel by Thierry Mugler, happy 20th anniversary!

Angel by Thierry Mugler, happy 20th anniversary!

The fragrance Angel by Thierry Mugler is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. From 1992 (its launch) and 2012, it was a real adventure, going from an extravagant dream towards the establishment of a market leader. Let’s celebrate! Everybody is waiting to know what surprises the brand with the star is preparing. In the meantime, follow this timeline. The Fragrance industry is by far one of the most dynamic segments of the luxury business. Each year, we identify more than 300 new fragrance launches in the world. After a period of 10 years, only 1 or 2 are still around. What makes the difference between a true creation that becomes timeless and a failure ? Probably the courage, the originality and the “convictions” a creator will place on it. And Angel by Thierry Mugler definitely  is part of these fragrances that changed the way perfumers were creating fragrances. There was…

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, disappointing.

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, disappointing.

La Maison Chanel is revealing this week a new fragrance, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, a flanker of Allure Homme Sport, already a flanker of Allure Homme. Purely disappointing. On the feminine side, Chanel always makes us dream. N.5 Eau Première was a beautiful creation and the Exclusive collection is for most of them real wonders. But in the masculine side, creation stopped with Egoiste in 1990. With Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, we have a less peaceful sport as we are moving from sailing to surfing. On the main advertising we can see the worldwide surfer Danny Fuller. He is officially the Brand sport spokesperson. In the adverting video we can see Fuller in the art of action. Check it here: In term of Flacon, nothing really new. In deed we can see the original Allure Homme Sport flacon in a darker grey version. It is supposed to express…
