Sisley Eau de Campagne was launched in 1976, the same year as Sisley. Its origins may be traced back to the Ornano family’s Berry estate. Hubert d’Ornano, a nature lover, was always delighted to recharge his batteries in this one-of-a-kind oasis of tranquillity.

We can only create beauty if we are surrounded by it on a daily basis

Hubert d’Ornano

L’Eau de Campagne is a fantasy of an exquisite and bold wake that we wear at all times, in the city and the countryside, in the summer and the winter. Whether paired with the feminine or masculine, a new aroma like a breath of fresh air, a daily part of life.

L’Eau de Campagne, the Scent

The beauty of this fragrance comes from its contemporary freshness. We are struck by a dazzling introduction filled with Basil alongside aromatic notes and lemon in the first minutes. We can quickly sense the powerful tomato leaf that spreads fully. It was one of the first fragrances utilizing this note in such a dominant way. The fragrance pursuits into a beautiful and delicate floral heart of Lilly of the Valley, Jasmine and geranium. This floral bouquet is slightly flavoured with a touch of plum. Our story is prolonged by a chypre structure where woods, mosses, and musks wrap the plot exquisite and comfortable.

Back in 1976, it was quite daring to focus on the Tomato leaf accord. This sharp green facet dynamites the entire freshness of the fragrance, being away from the perfumery standards. It is a very well balanced fragrance structure despite the powerful ingredients of the formula. It requires a truly experienced perfumer to master such olfactory titans. It was Jean-Claude Ellena who formulated the fragrance. The perfumer followed Mr Ornano to launch a fragrance that would remind the olfactory imagery of fresh-cut grass and the whole nature itself. A true burst of freshness can be used by men and truly appreciated by women.

Without overbidding marketing, Eau de Campagne became a success in France, the United States and Japan. Legend has it that model Claudia Schiffer and singer Elton John bought it “by the litre.

The Flacon: Less is More

The flacon of Eau de Campagne symbolizes a high degree of purity, letting the light green coloured fragrance being showcased perfectly. Its roundness provides a warm feeling in the hand, and it is convenient to be taken in your luggage during your holidays or business trips. The flacon is decorated with the Ornano’s blazon giving a very distinguished and elegant look.

The Advertising: Authenticity And Convictions

The first advertising is shot in the chic La Renaudière estate, with Hubert d’Ornano, the founder of the Sisley brand, at the stables’ entrance and his wife Isabelle playing golf. “All of this happened before the 1980s’ excessive speculation”, says the latter.

We introduced a product because we loved it, not because we had a marketing strategy in place
