I will not speak about the Lancôme new fragrance called La Vie est Belle by Lancôme.  The french brand is desperately looking for the next big hit after Trésor (1990). After Poême (1995), Miracle (2000), Attraction (2003), Hypnose (2005) and Magnifique (2008), now they are launching La Vie est belle (2012). I am not sure we will remember this one as probably we do not remember most of the ones in my above list.  By using Julia Roberts, they probably also expect to please the Tresor client (40 years and more) because I am not sure young women would remember her. The “Pretty woman” generation got old. Then what stroke me was some similitudes to Givenchy Ange ou Demon movie. Of course the Lancôme one is more politically correct but I found some interesting parallels with the dress, the decoration, some characters, scenario and camera moves. It is like if…

Dolce & Gabbana is launching via social media a new video to promote their men and women’s original fragrances. It was filmed in Sicily in the village of Erice and on beach of La Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro by Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. The 45-second video stars Laetitia Casta and her love interest played by American model and actor Noah Mills. It is set to “Città Vuota” by Mina. The overal ambiance displays a good mix between tradition and modernity and we can feel the scents of both fragrances in this movie.   Here the official advertising campaigns. It is true that we cannot succeed everything, and with the launch of the new fragrance by Balenciaga – Flora Botanica – it is precisely the case. Basically we cannot understand why such a launch. Is Coty Inc, the owners of the Balenciaga fragrance license putting pressure on Balenciaga ? Or is it just “Ok, we got it wrong”. As we can see the new “egerie” is Kristen Stewart. And here already troubles start. Why her? She is the typical “non-active” girl, sulky and without too much energy. Finally the perfect victim of vampires :-). I am a little hard here, sorry. But essentially she is a cliché and that is what I criticize the most Balenciaga’s choice.
