Timothée Chalamet, a meteoric rise

Timothée Chalamet’s rise to international acclaim began with his revelatory performance in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 coming of age film Call Me by Your Name. His disarming, magnetic portrayal earned him an Academy Award nod for Best Actor — and a place in history as that category’s third youngest nominee ever — among many other esteemed global accolades.

In a short time, the multifaceted Timothée Chalamet has amassed an illustrious résumé of rich and diverse performances thus far, working under the direction of Hollywood’s most distinguished auteurs after getting his start in off-Broadway theatre. His standout roles include turns in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird and Little Women, Felix Van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, Denis Villeneuve’s international blockbuster Dune, and most recently Guadagnino’s Bones and All.

Later this year, he will reprise his starring role in the highly anticipated Dune: Part Two and embody the eponymous character in Wonka, the movie musical prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The actor will next portray Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, which begins filming this summer.

Timothée Chalamet & CHANEL, a new adventure

BLEU DE CHANEL marks his first collaboration with CHANEL and as the official ambassador of any fashion or beauty label. Defying the preconceptions of men’s perfumery, the forthcoming campaign marks a milestone for Timothée Chalamet as well as the house of CHANEL, synchronously ushering in new eras for him as a modern icon and for the legacy of BLEU DE CHANEL.

The highly anticipated upcoming campaign will debut Timothée Chalamet as the ambassador of BLEU DE CHANEL, revealing the renowned scent in a new invigorating light. The synchronized alliance signifies a powerful confluence between CHANEL, the cultural reference point in fragrance worldwide with unique know-how, and a magnetic icon-in-the-making at the top of his game.

Captured by the lens of acclaimed photographer Mario Sorrenti, Chalamet seamlessly embodies the alchemy of the multifaceted BLEU DE CHANEL man, with all his vibrant and quiet idiosyncrasies. Driven by instinct, he is determined to live beyond the parameters in which he’s given. Fully aware of the big picture, he is still enraptured by the little nuances that often go ignored in life. He fearlessly leans into circumstance while harnessing his strengths and embracing his weaknesses. He is rife with contradictions: strong and vulnerable, edgy and sophisticated. He is on a boundless quest for the freedom to be, become, and better himself—in all his rich, complex habits and personality traits, style, and intellect.

BLEU DE CHANEL, away from standards

Since its inception, BLEU DE CHANEL has resisted fleeting whims and staid tradition while breaking the industry codes of men’s fragrance. Reminiscent of CHANEL N°5, which disrupted the world in 1921, BLEU DE CHANEL set an influential standard for its forward-thinking, outspoken take on what a modern men’s scent could be.

Skirting both trends and the status quo, BLEU DE CHANEL Eau de Toilette launched in 2010, followed by the warmer incarnation Eau de Parfum in 2014. Initially created by renowned CHANEL perfumer Jacques Polge, the unexpected aromatic woody fragrance, underscored by bright citrus notes, opened up a new olfactory path, looking beyond the status quo to create the colour of a new, urban and modern horizon. Furthermore, BLEU DE CHANEL’s simple yet commanding, monolithic totem became immediately recognized around the globe for its enigmatic hue: too blue to be black and too black to be blue. The broad, charismatic bottle stakes its claim—much like the man it represents— seemingly open to all possibilities, distinguishing itself with assertion and defiance in a state of perpetuity.

“There is a duality within the scent where an obvious freshness is met with a sudden intimate form of sensuality and strength.”

Olivier Polge, CHANEL in-House Perfumer

Olivier Polge, who succeeded his father at the helm of CHANEL’s perfume creation in 2015, is just the fourth nose in the House’s history. Olivier Polge set out to further cultivate the concrete world of BLEU DE CHANEL, composing the refined elegance of BLEU DE CHANEL Parfum in 2018. “We are always trying to twist the narrative of a scent to ultimately express something more complex than the raw materials that were there prior,” he says. “It’s like a painter mixing specific shades on his palette. It’s a little bit unexplainable, mysterious, and beyond creation.”

The distinct olfactory triptych has emerged as an evolving emblem of a new form of masculinity that refuses to be bound by archetypes— constantly stepping forward to reframe what a contemporary men’s scent can evoke while expanding and redefining its far-reaching public appeal. With understated authority, the latest chapter of the illustrious fragrance tells a story that reflects the existing spirit and fundamentals of the BLEU DE CHANEL man while speaking to a bold new generation, similarly resolute and rule-breaking in their own pursuit of self-discovery.

This collaboration is very interesting as Timothée Chalamet embodies certain values of freedom, modernity, multiculturalism and timeless elegance. These are interesting attributes that echo the CHANEL brand. Stay tuned as more information is to come.
