Baselworld, definitely a big deal
For the Swiss Watch-making industry is definitely one of the biggest event of the year. It is an event dedicated to professionals and each Brand will present their new watch collections to potential professional buyers. So basically the annual sales will be accomplished in just a couple of days.
This year the Basel Watch show will take place from March 19th to March 26th 2015. The city of Basel suddenly become a hot spot. All hotels are fully booked almost one year in advance, all taxis are booked, restaurants full, loads of people from more than 40 countries all gathering in the nice city of Basel.
What should we expect from Baselworld this year?
Baselworld 2015 will be an interesting year. With the Swiss Franc strong than never, there is a lot of questions about the incoming new orders. Prices are going up and potentially retailers might be more careful in the stocks they will purchase. So while certain brands will pursuit their path of innovation with new calibers and new technologies, others will capitalize on their best-sellers.
March 18th it is a Press day. Several press conferences will take place. One of them got our attention. Tag Heuer and Jean Claude Biver will do a special announcement. It is called TAG CONNECTING. Is it the most expected smartwatch by Tag ? There is a certain mystery around this announcement and trust Jean Claude Biver, he knows how to buzz.
Zenith is celebrating its 150th anniversary. It is a great accomplishment since 1865. We can expect they will probably mark the moment with something special around El Primero.
Other brands like Patek Philippe, Jaquet Droz or BlancPain will pursuit their story made of watch-making mastery and avant-gardism.
And what about Rolex, the king of brands? Well, hard to say but Rolex is by far the watch brand that knows how to capitalize on its best-sellers like the Daytona, Submariner, Yacht-Master or Datejust. And they have several of them. Since the launch of the amazing Sky Dweller in 2012, Rolex has been improving the technicality of the watches by adapting to new materials and more performant processes.
Baselworld is also the land of small brands that are doing an amazing job. Every year, we take a lot of pleasure by visiting what is called “the Palace”. A small section of the fair in which several small brands display their best creations. Brands like Antoine Martin or Breva blow us away in the inventiveness of their watchmakers minds.
So once again the LuxuryActivist team will be at Baselworld and we will defintely cover the highlights of the fair. Stay connected.
