When we think everything was invented and that there is no room anymore in the music industry, there are little miracles. This one here is called LOUD LUXURY.

From Ontario To Los Angeles And To The World, With Love.

Loud Luxury is a duo of DJs from Ontario. When Andrew Fedyk and Joe Depace met, they had a common passion for sounds and music. They met at school and very fast they got together to create music. The first songs arrived in 2016 but it was in 2017 where they had a defining moment by remixing the Martin Garrix single “Scared to Be Lonely“.

At the end of college, the duo moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue their dreams as Music makers and producers. 2018 is an important year as they release a single called “Body“. The single ranked immediately in the billboard charts in the top50.

Money was tight and we lived in a one-bedroom apartment which happened to be Charles Manson’s old place in the ’60s, basically eating oatmeal every day. Our main hustle was going on SoundCloud all day and messaging artists we were excited about to try and write music together.” – Loud Luxury

This success was a tremendous positive news in the history of the group. After some hard times, things started paying. Body is currently reaching 30 million streams on Spotify and it is getting to everywhere in the world.

Loud Luxury, Today The United States, Tomorrow: The World.

Mugler Cologne Universe – Color Up Your Mood

0
Reading Time: 7 minutes

Mugler-Cologne-New

The fragrance industry has launched a few fragrances that I would call olfactory UFOs. Meaning, fragrances that were so unique that you would recognize theirs scents in the first second you would smell them. Mugler Cologne is one of them. Created from the boundless universe of Thierry Mugler, it represented an extraordinary blend of sophistication, simplicity and uniqueness. 18 years after its launch, Mugler has dared to revisit its Cologne universe by adding four completely new variants that should take you into a holistic experience journey.

Mugler Cologne, Clean and Sexy since 2001

How to revisit centuries of perfumery and add an original touch that will make a blast in the fragrance market? This was the mission for Mugler Cologne, a fragrance launched by Thierry Mugler in 2001 and created by Alberto Morillas. The inspiration comes from a simple piece of soap that Thierry Mugler found in one of his trips. Drawn from the 14th century, the fragrance revisits the cologne family by adding a new sensuality to it. Mugler Cologne found a core audience of fans that felt in love about this creation from day one.

Mugler-Cologne-original

The original Mugler Cologne retains the sensual and almost scandalously addictive wake that made its success since 2001. You experience a true carnal freshness that is intimate and unforgettable. Like a second skin, it aspires to sublimate your personality with its singular notes. It is the cornerstone of  the Mugler Cologne universe. By revisiting the Mugler Cologne story, the original Cologne is now renamed Mugler Cologne Eau de Toilette COME TOGETHER.

The classic accord of Cologne (bergamot, neroli, petit grain and orange blossom) blends with a secret accord called “S”, and the fresh and moist smell of freshly-cut stems. Notes of white musk follow for an effect that exalts the scent of clean freshness.

Mugler-Cologne-Come-Together-mood-board

Mugler-Cologne-Come-Together

Feel the carnal freshness of skins intertwined: intimate, unforgettable. The S note, one of the most kept secrets of perfumery, never ages and still brings this vibrant sensuality to the fragrance. It was created by Alberto Morillas (Firmenich). What I always loved about Mugler Cologne was the amazing contrast of  such clean purity with a tremendous sensual aura.

COME TOGETHER Eau de Toilette is fresh and light. Like a second skin, it aspires to sublimate your personality with its singular notes. Redefining the original Cologne into a new range was a bold move with the risk of disappointing the fans. Here, the exercise was perfectly executed. There are three key elements we still have in the collection that were solid foundations of the original one:

  • The iconic flacon design, materials and shape are kept
  • The original scent “essence” is present in the 4 new variants
  • The main name is kept which allows to build a solid universe.

Mugler Cologne Universe, A New Chapter

With the launch of Mugler Cologne universe, there is a very simple goal: offering an “out-of-this-world experience” through arousing sensations and singular ingredients. It is surprisingly simple: 5 fragrances, all unisex, five colors around one strong theme. This is completely aligned with the brand DNA as Mugler always surprised by the simplicity and power of each fragrance. In one word: if you fall in love with one of these scents, it is going to be hard to wear something else.

For each fragrance, MUGLER breathes the freedom to create, vibrate, mix odors and colors to create its own “wake”. The flacon becomes a bottle, the bottle becomes a prism: like the light decomposed into an infinite chromatic spectrum, MUGLER COLOGNE diffuses scents of unlimited freedom. A detonating collection, amazing communication: no muse, no photography but a return to animated illustration to invite to a pop universe, colorful and surreal thanks to the iconoclastic talent of the illustrator Ugo Bienvenu.

Mugler Cologne TAKE ME OUT, Dream Big or Go Home!

Mugler-Cologne-Take-me-out

Franz Ferdinand was right: Take me out! With this new fragrance variant, Mugler takes the  Cologne to a new olfactory facet. TAKE ME OUT is an intense Cologne that blends the brightness of an orange blossom with the freshness of a shiso leaf. The orange leaf illuminates the fragrance freshness with a very solar feeling. On the skin there is an interesting sparkling aspect that helps pursuing freshness for a very long-lasting moment. Mugler says there is  a secret olfactory note called P that is supposed to bring a sensual vibration to the olfactory structure.

With this new variant, we discover a floral facet to the original Mugler Cologne that is very pleasant and very solar. Jean-Christophe Hérault (IFF) is the perfumer who created this fragrance. He knows very well the Mugler brand as he has already worked on the “Les Exceptions” collection.

What I like about Mugler Cologne Take Me Out, is the clarity of the orange blossom note that blends perfectly with a green facet.

Mugler Cologne FLY AWAY, I Dream High!

Mugler-Cologne-Fly-away

FLY AWAY is an intense Cologne that blends a sparkling yellow grapefruit with aromatic hemp. Lively then captivating, FLY AWAY is twisted by the secret “C” note to heighten the senses to a high effervescence. The biting sparkle of yellow grapefruit meets a devilishly aromatic hemp accord. The wake is intense and powerful. Galvanizing, the secret note C caresses the senses. This fragrance was created by Nathalie Cetto (Givaudan).

What I appreciate in Mugler Cologne Fly Away is the energy and the sharpness of a grapefruit facet that provides a vibrant start of this fragrance. There is a very intriguing aromatic note that takes the Mugler Cologne universe to unknown territories.

Mugler Cologne LOVE YOU ALL, All ways and Always!

Mugler-Cologne-Love-you-all

LOVE YOU ALL is an intense Cologne that blends a velvety blue licorice with voluptuous white amber. A warm, sensual trail mingled with a mysterious breath of freshness. Twisted by the secret “E” note, LOVE YOU ALL transports you in a thrilling and ecstatic abundance. It is a very “carnal” Eau de Toilette that capsizes the senses like a second skin. Fresh and light, Eau de Toilette LOVE YOU ALL is an ode to inner peace and self-confidence. The perfumer behind this creation is Jean-Christophe Hérault (IFF).

With Mugler Cologne Love You All, you really need to try on skin. It develops a very exciting olfactory story with a sensual aspect. I really like the kind of gustative light aspect that blends in a discreet way. It is a very precise olfactory structure.

Mugler Cologne RUN FREE, Fearless into the Future

Mugler-Cologne-run-free

RUN FREE is an intense Cologne with a dashing purple ginger and a vibrant Akigalawood®. An innovative and bold olfactory composition. Twisted by the secret “D” note, RUN FREE unleashes an electric desire for freedom and the infinite. This fragrance feel like a wind of freedom. It is explosive, and has a very surprising freshness into it. Shyamala Maisondieu (Givaudan) is the perfumer who created this variant.

The interest of Mugler Cologne Run Free is by far its energy and vibrancy. There is very interesting olfactory paradox between spiky elements and round deepness. This fragrance is also bringing the Mugler Cologne universe a step further into a new direction.

In Conclusion…

The new Mugler Cologne universe represents five fragrances, true winds of freedom. With such a strong focus, Mugler is truthful to its olfactory heritage and showcases its know-how as a fragrance house. It is a daring move by bringing 5 different variants at the same time which show the brand conviction about a honest and truthful perfumer work.

Buying Fine Goods on Your Luxury Vacation

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Travellers with refined tastes do not feel the need to visit the local souvenir shop for snow globes and key chains to bring home after a luxurious vacation. These items are not made to last and have no real connection to the destination beyond the words printed on them. Rather than coming home with a cotton blend t-shirt that will never be worn, angle for a fine good that will bring beauty, joy, and a lasting memory of your trip of a lifetime home with you.

luxury-travel-shopping

Make Room in the Budget

Whether you’ve been saving for this once in a lifetime trip for years, financed the trip especially, or have the luxury of travelling this way as part of your annual expenditure, ensure you have room in the budget for at least one meaningful item from your destination. A range of financing options are popular choices with travelers who want to ensure they can make the most out of every trip. The amount you need to earmark for this expense depends on the type of good you have in mind. Jewelry, fine art, fashion, local handiworks, or home goods all come with their own price bracket. Plan for an appropriate amount of spending money to get the goods you desire.

Do Some Online and Window Shopping

Before you embark on your journey, take a look around online to see what goods define the destination. Is the area filled with resident artists that offer breathtaking oil paintings of the landscape? Perhaps you are heading to Peru and want to indulge in an alpaca wool blanket of your dreams. Turkish rugs made of the finest silk are available in Istanbul for a fraction of the cost elsewhere in the world. If fashion is your thing and you are headed to London, Paris, or NY dare to spring for a high end piece from an established design house. Do some digging to determine what is on offer and what speaks to you.

Once you arrive, be on the lookout for goods you have in mind. As you stroll around see what is on display. Pop in to touch the fabrics, gaze at the artwork, and admire the fashion. Don’t buy the first thing you see. You want to get some experience with the variety of quality and costs that are available. Take your time and enjoy the process rather than snatching up the first beautiful item you find.

Luxury-traveler-shopping

Shop with a Reputable Vendor

Once you have a feel for the desired quality and price point you are after find an established, trustworthy vendor for your fine goods. Ask the concierge at your hotel, the waiter at dinner, and the locals you met over a glass of wine. These people will have advice on who to shop with and who to avoid. The last thing you want is to spend good money on bad merchandise. If you are buying art, textiles, or other large household goods do not be afraid to negotiate on the price and ask for the item to be shipped home to you as part of the negotiated price. It never hurts to ask and in many countries, this exchange is the expected way to conduct business.

Luxury travel improves our lives in numerous and immeasurable ways. Enhance your travel experience by bringing home a fine item that will equal the opulence of the vacation.

Luxury Clothing on a Budget: Yes, It’s Possible

0
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Luxury-clothes-guide

As of 2019, the luxury apparel industry in the U.S. values at $18.75 Million and has massive growth room based on the market study conducted by Statista. The term “luxury clothing” tends to intimidate a lot of consumers as they automatically think of expensive designer brands that easily cost several thousands of dollars. In truth, luxury clothing is more of a feeling the item gives off with its textures and overall effect. So if you’re on a budget, is it possible to obtain pieces of luxury clothing?

It Starts With Your Funds

Money always factors into fashion even when you’re the one creating the pieces yourself. A good rule of thumb is to limit clothes budget to around 5% of after-tax income according to Pete Dunn, a financial planner. To see what fashion pieces are practical, it’s good to establish your funding, and in some cases you may want to make use of sensible lines of credit to help you achieve your luxury closet. Getting a clear picture of how much you have to spend can help to give you a better idea of what pieces you consider priorities to invest in immediately, and which can wait for a later date.

It’s All in the Details

Fashion-conscientious individuals will know that the reason luxury brands are sought after is due to the small details. Upscale luxury brands will usually not have visible zippers, have practically invisible hemlines, and will always have straight stitches. There are alternative pieces that look just like the luxury brands but do not take into account the small details. So if you’re going to purchase similar prints or styles, keep an eye out for the finer details so you’ll get your luxury look for less.

The Power of Mix and Match

Luxury brands like bold colors and varying textures. If you’re on a budget, it’s good to invest in pieces that you can mix and match with others. Staples of luxury clothing are ankle pants, a classic leather belt, pointed footwear, cashmere sweaters, and a good trench coat. These are staples because they have repeat usage with other trendy luxury clothing brands. You can think of them as different members of the same family; putting them together equals fun and a luxurious family reunion.

Finding Reliable Sources

Having an idea of what pieces go together works but will come to nothing if you don’t know where to find the pieces. It is commonly said that the internet is the best place to look but the amount of scams is disheartening. A good alternative is to try out reliable places like Rent the Runway or Le Tote where fashion junkies can rent luxury brand clothes for significantly less. They have a rotation system that consumers can take advantage of. When something is no longer in the rotation, they tend to go on sale for a 70% markdown so you can actually own high scale pieces for significantly less.

Luxury fashion is fully attainable for anyone who knows what they want and knows where to look. Fashion is all about the absorption of trends and putting your own spin on it to mark your identity. It will take a bit of effort on your part but ultimately, it is entirely possible to have luxury clothing on a budget.

Thierry Mugler And The Legacy Of A True Artistic Revolution

1
Reading Time: 9 minutes

Fashion brands come and go. A great fashion Mademoiselle said once: Fashion fades, only style remains. When it comes to style, certain names are iconically linked to it and Thierry Mugler is one of them. It is hard to define if Thierry Mugler was a revolution or an evolution of fashion, but what we are sure is that there was a before Thierry Mugler and an after. Here is a flashback on how Thierry Mugler rocked fashion and the amazing story of the French Fashion and Beauty brand.

If you can dream it you can do it.

As Walt Disney said once: “if you can dream it, you can do it“. It all started with the boundless will of a man, Thierry Mugler. He was born in Strasbourg – France, and from a very early age he knew he had an artist within. At age of 20, he moved to Paris and started his career in Fashion design. In 1973, he created his first personal collection called “Café de Paris“. Paris, in the seventies, was the best place for such a start. The Prêt-à-Porter takes over most of the shop windows in the Rive Gauche. Thierry Mugler’s collection showed the beginnings of a Mugler strong femininity full of sensuality and strong personality.

Paris becomes the place of a new wave of talents. There is a renouveau in the fashion landscape. Couture and Prêt-à-Porter blends in order to create something else. You will be able to find a piece of clothe (a dress, a jacket or a skirt) industrially produced but with luxury details. Inspired and fueled by the encounter of Andrée Putman and Didier Grumbach who create  the group “Createurs et Industriels“, a new terminology appears to describe the new generation of fashion talents. We call them “CREATEURS”. Among Claude Montana, Issey Miyake or Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Thierry Mugler leads with a incredible singularity. It is also the start of North Italy textile industries. The Italian neighbors understand quite fast that this new generation of Createurs, need an industrial platform capable of innovation and scale. It needs to be faster, more innovative within a certain cost, and allow all the creativity of these talented people to become reality. The seventies was the cradle of all the following 20 years of fashion design.

monsieur-mugler

Thierry Mugler, fashion Creator, photographer, choreographer, iconoclast and artist

Thierry Mugler, as a fashion creator represented the emblematic figure of the unpredictable, scandalous and absolutely irresistible young Creator. From the design of his fashion, the catwalks, the photographies, everything  was taken good care by Mr Mugler in order to set up the myth of the Muglerian woman: dark, sober, sexy young woman, a real amazon of modern times.

The interesting point of Thierry Mugler is the fact that he was more than a fashion designer and his vision of fashion was more than simple clothes. He was an accomplished artist, photographer and iconoclast. By trying to describe what he has accomplished in time, I took the freedom to be inspired by the Genesis book. So this is what I would say:

In the beginning Thierry Mugler created his heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of Thierry Mugler was hovering over the waters. And Thierry Mugler said, “Let there be light,” and there was light“.

Thierry Mugler was motivated to create something that did not exist. The only way was to build an entire universe from zero. His dazzling creation power invited all of us to an extraordinary journey to unknown territories. The arrival of Thierry Mugler in the fashion world broke every single established rule and reinvented fashion. The brand fashion shows became legends and so far never equaled. Decade after decade, Thierry Mugler signed special looks that shaped the way women look, feel and seduce.

And Fashion became an explosive show

Thierry Mugler is more than 80 fashion shows in 20 years. He reinvented the way fashion catwalked. Victoria Secret did not invent anything. Just have a look at the mise en scene by Mugler. Here are my favorite Mugler fashion shows of all time:

Haute Couture Fall/Winter 1984 – Zenith

To celebrate Thierry Mugler’s tenth anniversary fall/winter 1984 collection, the designer staged a grandiose performance with a paying audience of 6,000 at the Zénith in Paris. It was the first time the French public had access to a fashion show. Incorporating film and stage direction into the production, Mugler depicted a model, La Madone, in an embroidered angel ensemble suspended above glass spires.

Thierry Mugler heritage

Thierry Mugler inspired a whole generation of fashion creators. His unique style gave wings to those who did not dare to fly. Here are some of the emblematic looks of the brand across time.

Thierry Mugler, Artistic collaborations

Thierry Mugler is like the city of New York: he never sleeps! He always have several on going projects and everything he does end with a tremendous success. Staging, choreography, clothing, music and the concept of his shows, Thierry Mugler is a craftsman and an artist. Here are some of his most iconic collaborations:

  • 1992 – Collaboration with Robert Altman and George Michael on the video clip “Too Funky”.
  • 1993 – He creates the famous Demi Moore black dress in Indecent Proposal
  • 2002 -Collaboration with Cirque du Soleil in the Zumanity show
  • 2009 – He was the artistic advisor for Beyonce on her Tour.
  • 2013 – Under his birth name Manfred Mugler, he creates Mugler Folies
  • 2014 – He creates the show Wyld in Berlin, the most expensive show ever (outside Las Vegas)
  • 2016 – He created and directed the music video and staging for San Marino’s Eurovision Song Contest

And suddenly there was an Angel and its Star…

It is almost impossible to speak about Thierry Mugler without mentioning the brand fragrances and specially the 1992 Angel Eau de Parfum. This was a true revolution in the perfumery world, redefining olfactory sensuality and gourmandise. At its peak, there was an Angel flacon sold in the world every 10 seconds. From a very polarizing fragrance, Thierry Mugler created a beauty empire with the help of Clarins Group.

The beginning of the 90’s brought an end to the extravagances of the 80’s. The over-sexual fragrances, like Obsession by Calvin Klein, were over and a new trend for more spiritual fragrances took place. It was the era for Samsara by Guerlain, Tresor by Lancôme or L’Eau d’Issey by Miyake. The sensuality of the spirit instead of the sexiness of the body. Interesting times.

When Mr Mugler started the project of Angel, the challenge was bigger than usual. For him, life should always be surprising and extraordinary and for his fragrance he wanted something never saw, never imagined and above all never smelt! To support the creator, Clarins (the owner of the Mugler Fragrance development) trusted Ms Vera Strübi. We say often that behind a great man there is always a great woman. Here it is totally the case. She was the engine and the soul of the legend creation of Thierry Mugler Parfums. She wrote the name of Mugler in golden letters in the Fragrance industry history. The fragrance was created by Oliver Cresp, perfumer at that time at Quest International, one of the worldwide fragrance houses. She was supported by the creativity of Mr. Yves de Chiris, creative director at Quest and Fragrance Guru, who supported all this “path opening”.

Each point of the marketing mix was a “first time” in the fragrance industry. And only a creator such as Thierry Mugler could dare such an audacious project.

  • A blue fragrance? Never done, not possible? Still it is the color of Angel fragrance.
  • A star shaped crystal flacon? Never done, not possible? Still it is the Angel flacon.
  • A scent that reveals gustative notes inspired by the food market? Never done, not possible? Still it is the “Oriental Gourmand” fragrance of Angel.

The unlimited creativity of Mr. Mugler was reflected on the theatralization of his fashion shows, the daring of his outfits and the allure of the Mugler woman.

25 years after the launch of Angel, Mugler keeps creating astonishing fragrances. With the launch of Aura Mugler, it is a new woman who is presented. As explained by Sandrine Groslier, CEO of Clarins Fragrance Group, Mugler is the freedom of reinventing itself. This is an incredible power in a market. Most of brands believe they have too much at stake to risk  any kind of creativity. And here is why Mugler stands out.

What now?

Since opening his house in 1974, the designer has given his imagination free rein and expressed his creativity in several different artistic fields. Day after day, he works to create a world that blends fantasy, extravagance and experimentation. It is a futuristic space and time in which the strength of the unexpected, the power of audacity, and creativity that knows no bounds take flight. It is a place where metamorphosis reigns.

Uniting dualities, the world of MUGLER under the creative direction of Casey Cadwallader (appointed in January 2018) is a laboratory for change. Harnessing the transformative spirit of the house founder, MUGLER stands for a forward-thinking and disruptive approach to fashion through the lens of culture.

While Thierry Mugler as a brand pursuit its way into the future of fashion and beauty, the man behind the “griffe” pursuits his journey by multiplying new projects, From Mugler Folies to The Wyld, his latest show, he never sleeps and has always something new to propose. With the Wyld, there was 500 performances in Berlin and more than 800’000 attendees.

Thierry Mugler legacy is more than never alive. His style, his ambition and his vision brought a profound change in fashion and in the way creators could free themselves from any rule. The power of Mugler is to source in its endless universe to reinvent the future. Every year, every decade, the Mugler brand is relevant for the l’air du temps. The brand was probably born under a lucky star but the talented people working behind or in front of the scenes are definitely responsable for the success.

A white shirt will add a touch of class to any outfit that you match it with, and whether that’s your business suit or a jeans and jacket combo, you’re never going to go wrong with this classic. Big name designers like Ralph Lauren are always going to include white shirts in their collections, and when Carolina Herrera says that the white shirt is the definition of her style, then you know it’s worth owning.

The Little Black Dress

The LBD should be in your wardrobe, and there’s no getting around that fact. This is a wardrobe staple, and it’s incredibly versatile. You can wear it plain with nothing more than an elegant hairstyle, or match it with bold or subtle accessories that can be tailored to the occasion. Not only are trench coats practical, they’re versatile as well, meaning that they should be a major element of your wardrobe.

Why Female Watches Are Never A Priority in Watchmaking?

0
Reading Time: 9 minutes

The 2019 SIHH is over and while Swiss watchmaking is recovering little by little from hard years, let’s highlight an interesting finding: Female watches are not always a priority in watchmaking. While men lines are generally the iconic pieces and the focus for most of the watch brands, it is unfortunate to realize that there is still efforts to be made in order to better please female watch aficionados. There are very few novelties dedicated to women that are true timepieces (and not necessary jewelry accessories only).

From a historical point of view, women’s watches came first!

When we look at watchmaking history it is said that the first women’s wristwatch was created by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1810. It was a special order for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. The younger sister of Napoleon, was a great watch aficionado. Between 1808 and 1814 she purchased from Breguet 34 clocks and watches, making her as one of the best customers of the brand. Commissioned in 1810, Breguet developed a revolutionary watch concept: an ultra-thin repeating watch, oblong in shape, equipped with a thermometer and mounted on a wristlet of hair entwined with gold thread. Story tells that more than 17 different craftsmen were required to build the watch and 34 different operations allowed to honor the Queen’s order. Since then, Breguet still perpetuates the heritage of Queen of Naples in a specific collection of their current catalog,

A little bit later in this 19th century, Patek Philippe made a wristwatch for  Countess Koscowicz of Hungary in 1869. Patek Philippe manufactured a very lovely and dainty timepiece on a yellow gold bracelet. Its rectangular yellow gold case was embellished with enamel and diamonds as well as decoration belonging to the highest jeweler’s art.

Another interesting story is Hermès. In 1912, Thierry Hermès granddaughter, Jacqueline Hermès disliked the way she needed to wear her pocket watch, specially when doing her outdoor activities. She asked her father to insert the pocket watch into a leather pocket that could be strapped to her  wrist. It was a fantastic innovation.

Hermes-watches-history

Thanks to these amazing true inventions, wristwatches were considered for several decades as a women’s item. Men would wear pocket watches attached to their waist coat. With decades of watchmaking development, certain brands stayed true to their feminine heritage and new comers brought a certain sassiness into the female segment. Still, modern era became dominated by men’s watches and we can say that today, it is a man’s world.

Today, watchmaking is a man’s world…

men-watches-review-2019

Current watchmaking worldwide sales represents, according to Euromonitor a total business of USD 30 billion. 60% of the business is dominated by men’s watches and 40% of the business is represented by women’s timepieces. The focus on men’s wristwatches is a modern conception from the main watch brands. There is an idea that women will wear their watches as a piece of jewelry. Other brands know that women tend to purchase big diameter watches which makes them acquire men’s models easier. When history started with small diameters for women like 24, 25 and 29mm, today female customers would easily purchase 36, 39 and up to 41mm watches. Even if most of brands would not measure or even communicate to women with those watches, we know there is a considerably amount of men’s watches being purchased by men.

Other brands tend to pursuit a middle-road which is the idea of “unisex” watches. When IWC launched the Portofino line back in 2014, it was a series of 37mm watches for both women and men.

… But women’s watches are a solid good business

women-watches-reviews-2019

Over the years many watch brands have developed new lines  to be marketed to women. Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, Cartier or Longines have established a pretty solid business on the women segment. In March 2015, Tag Heuer enlisted model Cara Delevingne to design a range of watches priced between $2,250 and $4,000. (Delevingne, of course, also starred in the campaign.)

The women market  crossed the worldwide level of USD 12 billion last year. It is a 60% increase compared to 2006, according to Euromonitor. While the men market had a strong deceleration in the past 4 years, women’s segment maintained a stable/constant growth since then. According to Chronolytics, there is growing interest in women’s watches (+43% year on year). Based on online behaviors like search engines results, the most popular female watches (based on online consumer behaviors) are:

  • Constellation by Omega
  • Royal Oak Lady by Audemars Piguet
  • Happy Sport by Chopard

When Fortune asked Sandrine Stern (Head of watch creation at Patek Philipe) what women are looking for when purchasing a watch she answered:

” What women want are timepieces with both substance and style. When I speak with ladies, their first priority is how  it looks. They prefer complications that are useful, like a date indication. While men like visible complications like chronograph, something  that looks high-tech. For them, it’s a bit like buying a sports car”

Trends about watchmaking in women’s watches

top-trends-women-watches

When looking to women’s watches, we can see there are several trends that have shaped latest launches. Here are a few of them that are bringing the level of female watchmaking higher.

Large diameters (not a new thing)

Women’s watches have evolved a lot in terms of diameter. While 50 years ago most of female timepieces were between 26 to 32mm, the past decade changed the deal quite a lot. Today, we see often female lines starting at 36 and going up to 41mm. Tastes have evolved and bigger watches became a symbol of modern elegance. The watch is also less a simple jewel and supplies an important useful role.

Technical elements are proudly shown

For a very long time, women’s watches needed to be beautiful, elegant and used to hide all technical elements (considered as not beautiful). Some watches would feature amazing movements that would be hidden by jewel, dials and other opaque backcases. Little by little, watchmakers discovered how to  make technical details sublime. Women watch aficionados also learned how to appreciate technical details, especially if they procure an utility. Complications are showcased in watches for her and it help to combine aesthetics and technology. Most popular complications for women are:

  • Date and Day
  • Perpetual calendar
  • Moon phases
  • Multiple time zones

Multi-bracelets change is a must

As we often see, women customers are happy to pair their accessories with their clothes and handbag or shoes. Colors, textures and style are important. Being able to change the watch bracelet is a must for every women which will allow them to pair the watch of their day-to-day look and mood. While traditional bracelets are almost impossible to be changed by the common user, watchmakers have developed clever fixations to help the regular user to shift of bracelets.

Three Women 2019 timepieces worth knowing (and you did not)

While men’s watches were the highlights of this year SIHH, there are a couple of new women’s watches that you might not know  and you should. Here are our top 3 novelties for women that deserves attention.

Claude Meylan Tortue 2019 Water Print Skeleton

Claude-Meylan-Tortue-water-print

Claude Meylan is an expert in the savvy technique of skeletonisation. Each year, Claude Meylan crafts its watches in ways that only an artist would care for his precious creations. Claude Meylan is definitely a true master in the art of skeletonization, working for other brands as well in the Vallée de Joux. Claude Meylan will use ETA movements and Valjoux movements in its watches. It is impressive to see how the movement is completely reworked to a deep degree. You will hardly recognize the original movement in the final result. Very impressive. This year Claude Meylan pursuit its exploration of the water print technique. The watchmaker matches the water print decorations with the skeleton structure of its movement. This watch is not necessary a women’s model but could seduce female users by giving a stylish approach of technical watchmaking.

Piaget Altiplano Tourbillon Meteorite 41mm

Piaget-Altiplano-Tourbillon-Meteorite-41mm-Pre-SIHH-2019

The Piaget Altiplano became an iconic watch in watchmaking. By achieving the challenge of creating a ultra-thin movement, Piaget opened a new window for elegance. In 2019, we discover this new variation of the Altiplano line which has a very outstanding look. The watch case is 41mm of diameter for only 7.4mm height. The pink gold case was decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds in the bezel and a precious meteorite blue dial. These elements provide a very chic look with timeless details. When we have a look at the watch face (dial), we can see 2 off-centered elements. The first one is the hours and minutes hands at eight o’clock. The second element is an aperture for the flying tourbillon at two o’clock. This watch is built with the 670P caliber. The tourbillon is an ultra-thin mechanism of 4.6mm height only. With this watch, there is also a great entry door for women watch users to the world of complications.

Jaeger Lecoultre Rendez-Vous Night & Day Jewellery

Rendez-Vous-Night-Day-Jewellery

Jaeger Lecoultre is one of the beautiful jewels in the Swiss crown of watchmaker. This year they are presenting a very nice timepiece called Rendez-vous Night & Day Diamonds and Pink Gold. Extremely refined, the Rendez-Vous Night & Day Jewellery watch embodies all the assets and finery of such timeless objects that offer women the opportunity to shine through the night. And for countless nights beyond. Featuring an automatic, self-winding movement, the new Jaeger-Lecoultre has a beautiful day/night indicator at six o’clock.

In conclusion, men watches have been the main focus in the past years as the business is bigger. Nevertheless, women’s watches represent a great growth opportunity if it is done properly. Women customers became more savvy and they expect a very high technical rigor.
