Claude Meylan is a proud company based in Vallée de Joux, a location dedicated to watchmaking. The roots of Claude Meylan is its major inspiration. The Swissness spirit gathers a tremendous amount of cultural references and Claude Meylan uses this heritage to tell stories of tomorrow. During Baselworld 2019, Claude Meylan revealed a new theme, inspired by the world of vintage car racing: LAC MOTORITIES.
With “MOTORITIES”, CLAUDE MEYLAN creates new sculptures of time.
Associating Claude Meylan’s know-how with a very appealing theme, MOTORITIES revisits the world of vintage car racing and each detail is a piece of art. The first striking element is the smallest hand-wound openwork movement available to date. There is a superposition of cut-out and colored sculptures that illustrate the particular moments of historical races. Claude Meylan further innovates and superimposes cut-out dials that creates a three-dimensional effect and an intriguing depth. Between them, spaces open up our imagination to immerse ourselves in the heart of mechanics and racing.
In black, grey and o white effects, faithful to the vintage spirit, the sculptures feature several shakers – imported from the Haute Joaillerie savoir-faire, they provide a movement and an animation leading to awakening the child who sleeps in us! These associations transport us to a new dimension where space-time is translated differently and to the sandstone of your only imagination.
The worlds of watchmaking and automobile racing have shared a strong connection for decades, with racing and high-performance cars often serving as a direct inspiration for watches, including classic models.
“We are masters of open-worked watches and we offer the largest collection of skeleton timepieces. As “Sculpteur du Temps”, we continue to develop our savoir-faire to create new ways to tell the time, new ways to enjoy the beauty of mechanics and new ways to express our ancestral heritage. Visitors will enjoy the discovery of true watchmaking, true values and intense creativity expressed in the introduction of new Tortue de Joux.” – Philippe Belais, Owner & CEO for Baselworld.com.
The new watches are, as always, true technique accomplishments. The specific construction of all elements allows a staging on both sides. If from the front we are in full action, it is through the transparent case back that we discover a new scene. In this case, the ETA movement was completely reworked, you barely recognize it.
